The lingerie you will never buy

February 13, 2008 by Kristina Haas

I just got back from Curve Lingerie trade show. This year they are paired up with “Boutique Lingerie”, segmented especially for smaller lines ideal for boutiques. Each time I go through the process of reviewing the brand’s line sheet and perusing the future merchandise, I go through the same emotional rollercoaster. There is a down side of a fashion forward boutique: Some garments never get made.

The emotions go like this. I sit with the designers rep, flip through their look book and then I see it, the perfect ensemble. I have a quick breath (gasp), say “O My Goodness”, and look at partner. At this point the rep politely corrects my emotion by stating that it has been cut from the line. I then exhale and know that I need to settle for the other amazing creations which are set in front of me. An example of this is the OnGossamer Havana Lace Bodysuit, super cute but it didn’t work out.

Each season beautiful garments are cut from the season’s line sheets. A line sheet is the document which shows the styles and all the details which are available for purchase for a specific season. There are several reasons why styles are cut. When you sell special creations, sometimes the mass market isn’t interested in taking the risk. So out of a list of beautiful garments, the ones that didn’t get purchased by enough stores, do not get made. Then there is my favorite, “Americans don’t go for those types of styles”. In this case, the styles are not available to me to purchase. A store in Australia, however, can stock up on the design. Of course there are the situations that aren’t in anybody’s control. These instances can include the trim is no longer available, the cost of materials can’t stay with the budget, or the style is redundant within the collection.

It is that time of year. There are lingerie shows going on from Paris to New York to Las Vegas. Thousands of buyers will be going through the same process. As designers stretch their creative muscles, Project Managers (or however holds the gauntlet) can swiftly cut these brilliant pieces from the line. They get nervous that they can see enough pieces to make it worth while to produce. Sometimes they are right. But a select few of disappointed buyers like my partner and I mourn the loss of what could have been.

This is the launching off point to a season of anticipation and taking the leap of faith for our customers. We go, we buy, all in hopes that we are bringing in something that they can love, and gasp over as well.

Lingerie Americas – The Go To Brands

August 25, 2007 by Krista

One of the things I loved about the trade show was not only discovering new brands, but also hearing about the new developments of some of my favorites that are more established in the industry.OnGossamer Cami and PantyOne of my favorite lines is sponsor of a previous giveaway, OnGossamer. This line is not simply resting on the laurels of its previous success, but continuing to stay fashion forward and expanding into new territory. Over OnGossamer Safari Hip-Gthe next few months, OnGossamer will be introducing some new, basic bra styles. And just in time for spring and summer, look to OnGossamer for a lot of fun colors and patterns. They will also be exploring terry cloth for the first time as well as a very soft microfiber that will be sure to feel delightful against your skin. In the meantime, continue to enjoy their classic and comfortable mesh collection available at some of our favorite retailers like Gigi’s Closet and Freshpair.

Another favorite, Fleur’t, continues to expand, particularly with the successful lulu collection (see my previous review). My favorite part is that these comfortable, mix and match pieces all tell a story or allow you to create your own. The fall color palate is Fleur't Amber beautifully rich and complements the colors of the season in shades such as sage, chocolate, wine, and fig. Look for the holiday collection to feature colors such as ruby, ink, and charcoal. Perfect for those cold nights curled up in front of the fireplace. Not only is the color palate expanding, but also the textures. Look for the addition of silks to the line up in the New Year as well. Sensual, luxurious, and totally fleur’ty!

We all love the amazingly beautiful and exquisite pieces by Elle Macpherson. (Apparently, we aren’t the only ones that have noticed as a lovely little number has been featured in the previews for the new ABC sitcom, Big Shots). This fall, prepare to indulge in retro inspired collections reminiscent of the 1950s. Designed to celebrate the female form, these collections utilize European silks and tulles, stretch satin, and georgette and feature an array of glamorous colors from lemon and watermelon to ink blue and copper. The intricate details such as ruffle trims and French embroidery complete the innovative look.

As we move into 2008, we will have even more to love. The 2008 collection, inspired by the luxurious 18th Century French monarchy, will be more feminine and soft, while retaining the tradition of beautiful craftsmanship and construction. This vintage collection will feature clean lines, light fabrics, and decadent detailing. With a range of colors from neutrals to brights, this collection will be sure to please. Stay tuned for pictures!

OnGossamer Sobe Safari: for Zimbabwe and for you

May 19, 2007 by Mandolina

Reading Gigi’s Lingerie Salon, the official Gigis Closet blog, I found out about these On Gossamer Sobe Safari pieces. Inspired on the African wildlife, OnGossamer has made a contribution to the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force, to help the herd and insure adequate water supply to the wild animals. That’s obviously marketing, but the good kind if you ask me. 😉

Anyway, what really matters are the pieces, and they’re adorable. A beautiful camisole for $68 and super-cute animal thongs for $22, all at Gigis Closet!
