Hanky Panky in the News

December 24, 2009 by Bruna

hanky-panky-original-riseWe recently told you about the launch of Hanky Panky’s first e-commerce site, but what we didn’t know until now is the company debuted their web retail division as a tactic to survive the harsh economy. Before the introduction of the site, Hanky Panky was only sold at high-end retailers, but by bringing the product online it inevitably expands the company’s reach.

“We’ve lived through four recessions and with this one, we’ve definitely felt it. We grew every year until this year,” Lida Orzeck, co-founder of Hanky Panky, told FOX Business News.

Another strategy the makers of Hanky Panky put to use is attaching giveaways to their products instead of lowering their prices. With that greater value, the consumer doesn’t feel ripped off and is more likely and willing to buy the label’s items.

Visit this link to check out a video report by FOX, which shows Orzeck in the design studio talking about her beloved brand.

Kylie Bisutti, a 19-year-old Californian beauty, was crowned as Victoria’s Secret newest Angel at the 2009 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, which aired December 1st on CBS, beating out thousands of other women vying for the coveted title.

At the beginning of the show, ten lucky contestants were still in the running to become the new Angel, and in the end it was down to Bisutti and Jamie Lee Darley, another Californian. Based on a nationwide online vote, Bisutti took home her new pair of wings and by the look of the picture above, she was not expecting it!

Below are the top 10 contestants. Based on looks alone, do you think Kylie was the rightful winner? (Images via CBS.com)

Cash For your Clunker Bras!

December 6, 2009 by Mandolina

The Cash For Clunkers program might be over when it comes to cars in the US – but an Amsterdam-based lingerie boutique has decided to fight the recession with their very own Bra Scrap Scheme.Je M'Appelle Niki Inspired by the scrap scheme in the car industry, the boutique invites shoppers to turn in their old bra at Je m’Appelle Nikki and receive a discount of €7,50 when buying a new one.

Boutique Founder Nikki Crouwel says about the campaign: “This recession is not only harming the car industry, it is painful to the fashion and lingerie sector as well. But this witty campaign that refers to the car scrap scheme in a lighthearted way, has surprising earned attention and increased our sales. Most important, we can send the returned bra’s to a good cause.”

I actually think this is a GREAT idea – and hope to see more brick & mortar locations do similar things. This has to be a win-win situation, no?

Ninth Annual No Pants Subway Ride in January

November 30, 2009 by Kelly

While you’re holiday shopping you might want to throw an extra pair of cute panties in your basket for yourself to wear on the No Pants Subway Ride! January 2010 will mark the ninth annual No Pants Subway Ride, organized by Improv Everywhere and held in New York City (with smaller groups also participating in cities around the globe). The event is just what it sounds like – participants will strip down to their undies and ride the subway as a large public prank. Everyone acts like nothing is out of the ordinary – if asked why they aren’t wearing pants, they simply reply “oh, I must have forgotten to put them on.” The stunt started in 2002 with only 7 men participating, but it has grown so large that in 2009 there were 1,200 participants in NYC and over 1,000 others around the world. Wearing your underwear in public is perfectly legal in New York City so you only risk awkward stares. Here is some footage from 2009’s ride (with some hilarious reactions from fellow passengers):

If I was going to participate, I think I’d wear b.tempt’d – their panties are cute enough to show off, usually have a decent amount of coverage (which you’ll probably be grateful for if you end up in the next public video!), and they are inexpensive enough that it won’t break your heart if you fall in the snow with them!
