Unique Lingerie Jewelry

August 22, 2009 by Kelly

For most of us, our lingerie isn’t something the whole world sees. Other than our stockings, a fashion corset, or decorative bra straps, most of our underpinnings stay under wraps for only a select audience to appreciate. But you can be public about your love for lingerie, with lingerie jewelry. Wear your passion around your neck or on your wrist, and keep them all guessing about what they can’t see!

Vollers Corsets

The English corset company offers corset-inspired jewelry to compliment any outfit. Vollers jewelry can often be found in the product shots for the corsets themselves! They currently offer earrings, necklaces, and bracelets highlighting details that can be found in corsets, like the lacing or front clasp fastenings. Click here to see more or to purchase.

Etsy

Of course unique jewelry always makes me think of Etsy! There are several sellers on Etsy selling lingerie-themed adornments, including JewelParlour and Ottobone.

Thomas Sabo

With Thomas Sabo charms, you can make a bracelet or necklace with the available lingerie-themed charms (among others). Charm bracelets have eight charm slots available, while the pearl, stone, and leather bracelets as well as the necklaces can hold up to three charms each, so you can accent the lingerie set with your birthstone or other charm.

Oak

Lastly, Oak has a necklace available with a charm designed after the iconic cone bra worn by Madonna.

Do you know of any other jewelry designers with lingerie-themed designs? If so, please leave a comment!

Fatou Fatal from France via Senegal

April 4, 2009 by Rene

Fatou Kebe is the young Parisian designer behind the lingerie line «fatou fatal». Kebe immigrated to France at the age of two in 1979. She pursued her degree in philosophy and law. After graduating, she worked as secretarial support to Managing Directors at various companies. By 2005, she grew tired of the discrimination she perceived in some parts of French society and decided to start her own company.

Kebe draws on her familiarity with French Civil Code, accounting, and other rules of business to begin «fatou fatal». She secured a grant from the Seine Saint Denis government and starts her lingerie dreams on only €8500. Through hard work and a bit of luck, Kebe is selected to join other artists and creators in residence at Ateliers de Paris. The workshops are part of the former property owned by Jean Paul Gaultier on Faubourg Saint-Antoine road.

I think it is incredibly hard to find a unique voice or hand in lingerie. The garments have been around for a very long time and although there are frequent improvements in materials and process, many designs are indistinguishable from other designs. Kebe provides a gust of fresh ideas in the lingerie space. Her vision is equal parts jewelry and seduction. Many women of African origin wear a pearl waist necklace known as “djaldjali”. In these cultures, the djaldjali is irresistible. It accentuates the hips and adorns the body with delicate stones and beads.

Kebe, originally from Senegal, is quite familiar with the djaldjali. In her country, it is often called a “bine-bine”. Kebe isn’t simply participating in cultural arbitrage. Her jewelry based lingerie includes real pearls, Swarovski crystals, fluorescent beads, shells, onyx, quartz, and other semi precious stones. The product is even sold in boxes that look much more like necklaces than the ubiquitous gift bags favoured by so many brands.

You can find Fatou for sale in Germany at Matadora Dessous and in France from French Lingerie Shop. The company told me, “We are looking for distributors to retail «fatou fatal» all over United States.” Currently, the 2006, 2007, and 2008 collections are for sale. The company said, “In June our new collection will be available on our website + an everyday wear collection.” Pricing for the collection is not for the timid. Sets range from €350-€995

Here is Kebe in an interview with 20 Minutes in France:

What to Wear with Your Valentine Kit

February 23, 2009 by Rene

Did you get a new kit from your beloved for Valentine’s Day? If not, maybe you picked up something special for yourself in the sales after the holidays. Are you looking for accessories or something to finish up your boudoir outfit? Here are some ideas to consider.

From the Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum gift shop comes these incredibly thin stainless steel, powder coated black or white and precision laser cut bracelets. Fabian’s design is inspired by lingerie and its use of lace. Find them for $135

If you need a lingerie inspired choker, you might have success with either of these. One the left is a latex choker from Gloss Couture for $34. On the right, is a leather and lace choker from mega supplier Allure. Find this one for $26.78.

If retro is more your style, then Lou Lou Loves You is an accessory designer you need to be familiar with. On the left is a one of her famous bows. This is made from double layered 100% silk satin and is £16.99. On the right, one of her special cover-ups. The Dorothy Boudoir Jacket in black/white gingham is 100% cotton with a delicate black frilled elastic which creates a fitted look. Long black ribbon ties the jacket together at the centre. Find it for £45.

If you are looking for a lower cover up, then Torrid has some designs for plus-sized ladies. These petticoats have additional details to make them perfect for the boudoir. On the left, a feathered offering about 15″ long in polyester for $38. On the right, a car wash inspired fringe petticoat about 17″ long also for $38.

Victoria’s Secret’s 2008 Fantasy Bra

October 21, 2008 by Kelly

If you’re sitting around on an extra $5 million to spend on Christmas presents this year, consider the Victoria’s Secret 2008 Black Diamond Fantasy Miracle Bra.

Victoria's Secret Fantasy Bra

Jeweler Martin Katz made this one-of-a-kind creation with 3,575 black diamonds, 117 certified 1-carat round diamonds, 34 rubies, and 2 spotlight black drop diamonds totaling 100 carats. The total carat weight is 1500 ct. and the bra is designed for maximum cleavage enhancement. I think the photo speaks for itself here!
