Claire Pettibone: a modern spin on vintage notions

May 10, 2007 by Kelly

I found Claire Pettibone’s website a few days ago while randomly searching for lingerie on the internet (as I am wont to do). I had never heard of the label, but I think I may have found my lingerie soul mate! I immediately fell in love with the vintage-inspired slips and lacey details present in so many of the collections. Claire Pettibone delves far into the vintage realm, to the point of offering little bloomer-inspired boyshorts! Introduced in 1994, the line offers camisoles, chemises, gowns, robes, thongs, and boyshorts. My favorite collections are “Felicia” (so pretty) and “Cicily” (so glamorous), although it was hard to choose! I am infinitely enchanted by the description of the line found on the website:

“When I design a collection, I strive to make a woman feel as special as the delicate creation she is wearing; take her to a enchanted time and place where women are princesses and magnificent goddesses. In today’s modern world we need to pause and indulge in beauty.”

I found selections of Claire Pettibone online at Saks and Amazon. There is also a store locator on the website. It looks pricey, with a thong selling for $52 and a gown for $172-$268. They look like a beautiful investment, though! Be sure to check out the website. These modeled pieces don’t do the whole collections justice!

Alice & Astrid Spring/Summer 2007

April 26, 2007 by Mandolina

I’ve just discovered Alice & Astrid‘s Spring Summer collection for 2007, and it’s looking absolutely fabulous! Not only have the Alice & Astrid designers gone for great colors with a large contrast between the absolute summer-like pieces in various shades of white, lemon and pale pinks and the tangerine and greens. It all looks very pretty though, and the pieces have a real feminine touch that feels very familiar to those who’ve been following Alice & Astrid in the past few years.

The bad news is it’s very hard to find these pieces — on the web and in real life. We recommend Faire Frou Frou (they have a few items on sale from previous collections!) for US residents, Harvey Nichols in the UK and Le Bon Marche in France. Just looking for info? Check out aliceandastrid.com!

Honeydew – It’s a Do!

April 2, 2007 by Krista

honeydew.jpg On a recent shopping trip to my favorite shop, I decided treat myself to a little something special.honeylounge.jpg

Although I desperately desired the more expensive treasures, I satisfied my craving with a little something flirty and fun – the Animal Print Mesh Rumba Short (in Mente) by Honeydew Intimates (only $16!). It was a tough choice deciding between the animal print and the abundance of other fun patterns such as apples, rainbows, and butterflies!

The perfect pick for a day around the city or a night on the town, wearing these boyshorts is like having your own fun, little secret. While I wouldn’t recommend these under your most form fitting pieces, honeycami.jpg they do fit well, and are basically invisible, under jeans. Strangers will wonder where your confidence comes from! Honeydew is available online and in many retail stores.

honeysig.jpgWith an expansive selection of exquisite underthings from flirty loungewear to sassy mesh camis, Honeydew is sure to please.

Perusing the Honeydew website, I discovered the Honeydew Signature collection. According to the website, the collection is inspired by the “tones and hues of 1920’s Hollywood.” These elegant vintage pieces are absolutely divine! I especially love the Eden silk camisole and bikini (only $60 for the set!). The rich moss color is striking and I can imagine would compliment any skin tone. While these pieces are available for purchase on the Honeydew website, I am investigating their presence in retail stores. Stay tuned…

Sophie Simmons Dessous at Faire Frou Frou

March 29, 2007 by Mandolina

Faire Frou Frou has stocked in on New-YorkDessous - Sophie Simmons Anna Cotton Jumper designer based Sophie Simmons’ new ‘Dessous’ collection. The American designer specialized in creating a French-style decadence look with loads of fabric and beautiful drapings has created some pieces very much worth of getting some attention on this website…

The photo’s make their point pretty clearly.Dessous - Sophie Simmons Clementine Nightie Beautiful camisoles, lovely chemises, babydolls and very girly and innocent looking nighties – all in high quality fine Italian cotton.Dessous - Sophie Simmons Sabrina Cotton Nightie

My personal favorite is the Clementine Nightie ($166.00 at Faire Frou Frou). This cotton knit empire nightie has a beautiful floral design appliqué on the front, and 3/4 length sleeves.

Hope you enjoy the photo’s. As mentioned before, the range is available online at Faire Frou Frou!
