I will be leaving for a week-long vacation in a few days. There are lots of plans to make before a vacation, one of which (of course) is how to tote and care for your lingerie and swimwear while away from home. I know that I’m not the only one facing these predicaments, so here are some ideas for anyone else heading out for a holiday soon!

First, you’ll have to pack and store your lingerie somehow. You should seperate it from all your other clothes, so delicate lace isn’t torn by zippers and clean silk isn’t ruined by shoes. Krista has shown us the Bra(g) which is a great solution for anyone traveling with molded or padded bras. The Bra(g) is shaped like the cups of your bra, so it keeps them in shape and protects them from being squished, creased, wrinkled, or poked. You can protect other lingerie with a lingerie travel bag. Julianna Rae has a silk bag that is pretty enough to hold its own against your sexy little things. For someone (like me) who needs something a touch more practical with clearly labeled pockets (so I can see at a glance which section to reach into), Lapin Vilardi also has a wide selection of gorgeous bags – you have the option of seperating clean from dirty, or naughty from nice.

If you are traveling by plane, you may want to put some thought into the underthings you plan to wear to the airport. Control garments or shapewear may become uncomfortable if your body bloats at high altitudes. In my native US, the TSA recommends that you don’t wear a bra with an underwire as it may set off the metal detectors, and also asks that you do not wear gel bras. The TSA also warns against clothing with metal buttons, snaps or studs – so the metal bits on your garter belt or corset may cause a problem. That all being said, I have walked through the metal detectors with an underwire bra plenty of times and have only been stopped once. (Have any experience with this yourself? While away, you can bring some cleanser with you if you plan to do laundry before you come home. You can get portioned lingerie detergent capsules from Soyelle, which are easy to pack and a cinch to use. Want to cut down on the amount of laundry you have during your trip? You can also try Flingz disposable thongs.
