Marlies Dekkers’ Expansion

April 15, 2008 by Mandolina

Marlies Dekkers was not daunted upon her graduation in 1991 when everyone told her that being in the lingerie business was a waste of time since there was no money to be made. But she rebelled and she proved them wrong. In 1993, she received a grant from the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, designed her famous “spider bra” and registered her company name “undressed”. And today with nine stores to her credit having just recently opened in The Hague, Berlin and New York City, she has never looked back.

The NYC store, while already open, will not hold its official launch until sometime this summer while the Berlin store opened recently with the launch of her Fall|Winter 3 Collection called Arabian Nights. The current collection was also shown, a beautifully energetic and colourful exotic design called Tropical Birds.

While the photography on her Spring|Summer Collection seems rather provocative and even bizarre, the pieces of lingerie are nonetheless elegant, chic and stunningly different. It is very easy to understand how Marlies has become so successful as no other designer matches her range of creativity. Intricate patterns, eye-catching colours, gorgeous designs and garments that look realistically comfortable are only a few of the many features of this beautiful collection of lingerie and swimwear.

The new “sundressed” 2008 collection, available for sale in her stores, is an awe-inspiring collection of sunny beach colours and fabrics mixed with mythological symbols. Just seeing this collection for the first time, it really makes you crave for the fun and sun of summer. Lazy days on some tropical island dressed in gorgeous tropical prints by one of the most outstanding designers in the business.

Rewarded time and time again for her notably superior workmanship, Marlies Dekkers truly understands what women crave to wear.
