July 19, 2020 by Brigitte

Emma Harris has her own luxury lingerie atelier and designs and produces hand-made artisan lingerie and loungewear in the UK for quite a few high-end brands. She has her own brand too and her key USP is that everything is hand-produced using the most complex, painstaking techniques that result in a very high quality, lifelong garment and this comes in a wide size range (28-36, A-FF).

Emma Harris AW2020Emma Harris’ new AW20 collection is out and features an absolutely stunning new range, MELODY; a new colour in last season’s best-selling CLEO, which will be added in a gorgeous garnet shade with antique gold lace, plus the option of Cleo in red as a special order.

Inspired by Old Hollywood, Melody features a unique diamond design, reflective of this period which is echoed throughout the collection. Fashioned in French lace, specially selected for its vintage look and featuring newly designed shoulder straps for an elegant and sleek look at the back, Melody boasts a robe, slip, camisole, short, pyjama bottom, bra, brief and thong.

The full Melody collection will be available in vintage rose and champagne from Spring 2021 but it will make an early debut in AW20 with a sneak preview of the Melody capsule collection in navy (see pretty picture below!).

Intimates over the Years: James Bond Swimsuits Never Die

June 7, 2008 by Gayvin

Ever since the Bond films began in 1962, Bond women have always made an impression. Some of these iconic beauties and their swimwear still have an influence on lingerie and swimsuits today.

Whenever a person mentions swimsuits and James Bond, usually the first image to come up is Ursela Andress as Honey Ryder in Dr. No. The swimsuit was a huge success and, in 2002 Halle Berry wore a modern version of it in Die Another Day. To this day, designers are still inspired by Ursela’s suit and S.P.A.N.X has created a James Bond knicker. Thanks to Knicker’s Blog for first letting us know about S.P.A.N.X’s gorgeous Bond inspired lingerie.

The little black bathing suit has always been a good staple, even for Bond women. This black bikini (with circular hardware on the top) is the front cover of the Thunderball book. When the book came out, it was a popular style, and today you see this design too. Fortunately for us this season, Vitamin A has a Rico Shimmer sleek halter bikini top with ring detail that mirrors the Bond suit.

Goldfinger was a huge hit when Shirley Eaton (as Jill Masterson) died from being painted entirely of gold. In the image, she’s wearing a gold metallic panty. Metallic swimwear and lingerie is hot this year and will be for a while! This season Shay Todd features Bohemian Rhapsody triangle bikini set and updates that unforgettable gold panty.

I can’t end without including Daniel Craig’s Grigioperla swim trunks by La Perla. Thanks to Bond Lifestyle for letting us know where we can find this suit. It could be argued that this one image of Craig did more for James Bond than all the Bond women put together.

If you enjoyed this post, drop me a line. I’m posting a retrospective series called “Intimates over the Years” that highlight lingerie and swimwear that we’ve seen in past films and popular culture that are making a revival today.

Confessions from the L.A. Textile Show

April 26, 2008 by Gayvin

I confess, it was my virgin trip to the Los Angeles Textile Show. What an experience! I went through over a hundred booths seeking those “it” pieces of fabric that I had designed my Spring ’09 Eve’s Apples lingerie line around.eco silk_1.jpg

I can’t deny it, I adored the French lace. If French lace is a sin, then I don’t want redemption. Unfortunately, with the U.S. economy being so fragile and my greatest attempt at staying away from the higher end pieces, my lovely lace was still priced at over $90 per meter…Time to reconsider my line.

After three days of silk, satin, and lace, two Project Runway alumni sightings and one caffine infused drink every hour, I focused on looking for inspiration pieces. Fortunately, that is just what I found. Time and sleep solved the sensory overload from last week and a few pieces have stuck with me that inpsired an entirely new line.

The big hit of the show was all of the new eco-fabrics in bamboo, hemp, and recycled materials. I have to agree with Women’s Wear Daily and say that next year, I think we’ll see a lot more of eco-friendly garments, including lingerie, in the market place. Here is a round of applause to companies creating fabric that is both sustainable for the environment and can be as soft as sillk.

In spring 2009, we’ll see designers rethinking and recreating the look of luxurious lingerie. Due to ingenious approaches to fabric and the varying international economys, lingerie designers have a great opportunity to be even more innovative with their styles and use of embellishing materials. I’m excited to see what wonderful and creative delicacies are revealed next year!
