We brought you news earlier about a new line of bras, Le Mystere No.9, made specifically for women with breast implants. While I understood the basic idea that women who have breast implants may need a different bra, I confess I didn’t know much about what the specific changes and challenges were in finding bras for augmented breasts. However, we just got word from Le Mystere about the specific changes that you’ll find in this special line. Details:
- Regular bras have a conical shape that simply doesn’t work with augmented breasts. The No.9 line is a bit different in that it is designed to compliment the shape of the breast implant and the anatomic changes that occur after augmentation.
- The underwire of a traditional bra is an ovoid shape that doesn’t fit or support breast implants. Breast implants have a smaller base diameter than natural breasts, so the No.9 underwire is designed to support this rounder, smaller base diameter which allows the augmented breast to fit correctly in the underwire.
- Augmented breasts often have more projection and wider cleavage than natural breasts because high profile breast implants are ideal for women with narrower ribcages. These high profile implants require more depth in a bra. Therefore, the center gore of traditional bras is too narrow and causes a bowstringing of the bra, causing a loss of support.
Le Mystere also offers demonstrations for plastic surgeons’ patients, so if you are interested in this line it would be worth calling up your surgeon to see if there will be one in your area, where you can get more information directly from a Le Mystere fit consultant.
This line is now available online from Bare Necessities, HerRoom
, Nordstrom, and Arianne on Edward.
