Flingz Disposable Thongs

May 30, 2008 by Kelly

There is a new product out designed to simplify women’s lives – Flingz thongs are disposable underwear, designed to be wornFlingz once and thrown away. The creator, Kathryn Thigpen, conceived of the idea after having many flights canceled, leaving her stranded in random cities without fresh underpinnings to change into. So she created Flingwear. I was originally uneasy about highlighting this product, because I would hate to be the cause of more trash piling up in landfills. But Thigpen claims that the thongs, made of 95% cotton and 5% elastane, are biodegradable. They come in packs of 3, with each thong in its own small disposable bag, Flingz disposable underweardesigned to be kept in a desk, car, gym locker, or handbag. After you wear them once, you are supposed to just throw them away and avoid the hassle of doing laundry. The website does explain that you can handwash and line dry them if you must.

Am I the only one who doesn’t quite know what to think of this? Is it really easier to pack disposable thongs in your purse than regular ones? I can see how they may be useful on a weekend vacation – you wouldn’t have to lug home a bunch of unlaundered panties. But for everyday emergencies, it seems like any one of your favorite thongs could be tucked away in your gym bag just as easily!
