La Perla

Chinese Mythology in La Perla Black Label

August 3, 2008 by Kelly

In April we saw the Eastern-inspired designs from the La Perla Black Label collection. Today we’re going to show you some pieces that incorporate Asian mythology a bit more literally. I love this Orient Style collection because it is nothing what we’ve been seeing in the lingerie world lately! Most of the pieces are made out of a grey silk with illustrations printed on, described on the La Perla website as:

The sexy side of the Orient is on stage…an erotic play-acting and audacious contaminations of sacred and profane, letting thus an erotic tension that goes between chastity and sin: amorous meetings with a hint of sin consumed on the background of proposals inspired by the ancient vestments of Ming priests. A sensuality whispered by the chromatic game of the discrete grey with the passionate coral-red of the dragons, of traditional Chinese mythology.

One of my favorite pieces Asian-inspired pieces, however, is the dragon bra which is actually part of the Fior Di Loto collection. The cups are made out of golden metal, and held together by black satin ribbons. You’ll have to save up if you want it, though – it’s currently going for $1048.

Intimates over the Years: James Bond Swimsuits Never Die

June 7, 2008 by Gayvin

Ever since the Bond films began in 1962, Bond women have always made an impression. Some of these iconic beauties and their swimwear still have an influence on lingerie and swimsuits today.

Whenever a person mentions swimsuits and James Bond, usually the first image to come up is Ursela Andress as Honey Ryder in Dr. No. The swimsuit was a huge success and, in 2002 Halle Berry wore a modern version of it in Die Another Day. To this day, designers are still inspired by Ursela’s suit and S.P.A.N.X has created a James Bond knicker. Thanks to Knicker’s Blog for first letting us know about S.P.A.N.X’s gorgeous Bond inspired lingerie.

The little black bathing suit has always been a good staple, even for Bond women. This black bikini (with circular hardware on the top) is the front cover of the Thunderball book. When the book came out, it was a popular style, and today you see this design too. Fortunately for us this season, Vitamin A has a Rico Shimmer sleek halter bikini top with ring detail that mirrors the Bond suit.

Goldfinger was a huge hit when Shirley Eaton (as Jill Masterson) died from being painted entirely of gold. In the image, she’s wearing a gold metallic panty. Metallic swimwear and lingerie is hot this year and will be for a while! This season Shay Todd features Bohemian Rhapsody triangle bikini set and updates that unforgettable gold panty.

I can’t end without including Daniel Craig’s Grigioperla swim trunks by La Perla. Thanks to Bond Lifestyle for letting us know where we can find this suit. It could be argued that this one image of Craig did more for James Bond than all the Bond women put together.

If you enjoyed this post, drop me a line. I’m posting a retrospective series called “Intimates over the Years” that highlight lingerie and swimwear that we’ve seen in past films and popular culture that are making a revival today.

House of Fraser Lingerie Collection Open House

June 2, 2008 by Mandolina

The first week of June will be an exciting event for customers at the House of Fraser, Manchester. A leading retailer of designer brands in the UK, House of Fraser is hosting an extravaganza of luxury lingerie collections from the finest French and Italian labels. Apparently, there will be many opportunities to win free lingerie from companies such as Lejaby, La Perla, Chantelle and Simone Perele. In addition, Huit will be offering free product with purchases from their collection.

House of Fraser is an institute in the UK and Ireland with over sixty stores, one hundred and fifty years in the business, and several new store openings slated for 2008. In recent months they have made online shopping available through their extensive website and offer a convenient telephone sales desk with delivery as well. A High Street retailer, House of Fraser offers the finest and most luxurious lingerie labels on the market. It would be well worth the visit to see this exclusive celebration.
