How to Wear Skimpy Lingerie in the Winter

November 9, 2009 by Kelly

Where I live, it’s just starting to get cold out – this morning was the first time it was below freezing when I went outside! If the same change is happening to you, you’re probably beginning to pull sweaters and coats out of storage. But what about your lingerie wardrobe?

There are a couple lingerie changes I welcome about Autumn. The extra layers of clothing mean I wear more slips, stockings, and bras that aren’t just plain t-shirt styles. It also means that it’s harder to wear something sexy without freezing! But if you’re not willing to resort to big flannel nightgowns and fuzzy slippers for the next few months, there are some tricks you can use to stay true to your glamorous self year-round.

Robes

I’m not talking about the fluffy, fuzzy robes you wear after a bath. You can find sophisticated robes made from the same fabric a chemise might be made out of – and if you buy a peignoir set, it will actually match or complement your gown. Leave your robe unbelted to reveal the lingerie you have underneath, pick one with high slits up the side to tease with exposed legs, or find a sheer robe that will give a glimpse through the fabric. And of course, robes come in varying lengths so you can find the best compromise between sexiness and protection from drafts! Vampy marabou slippers complete the outfit and protect your feet from a cold floor. (Velvet robe/gown set by Jonquil, slippers by Frederick’s of Hollywood)

Cozy Cardigans

For a warmer and more casual alternative, you can ditch the robe and get a comfy wrap cardigan. They’re short enough to reveal your legs, and the belted waist shows off your figure. Lose the belt to let your cardigan fall open and show off what’s underneath. (Cardigan by Figleaves)

Thigh Highs

Stockings are a no brainer – I’ve already counted them as one of the good things about the weather cooling down. 😉 But they’re not always enough to keep you warm with skimpy lingerie, so you may want to get a few pairs of thigh high socks. I’ll admit that thick, warm socks won’t work with everything (they might not look right with your most glamorous or sophisticated pieces) but they are a cozy pairing with lingerie more on the “cute” end of the spectrum. Thigh high socks share some sexy characteristics with stockings (they highlight your legs and reveal a glimpse of thigh as you move) but still keep your legs toasty. Think about wearing these with a sweet camisole and tap pant set, or a short chemise. (Socks by Sock Dreams)

Flannel ChemiseSometimes you just have to upgrade your collection. Look around for cozier styles similar to your warm-weather favorites – pick up a flannel chemise to replace your silky one or opt for a sleeved sleep shirt over a revealing babydoll.

If you plan on taking them off in the bedroom (for sleep or for play!), use a space heater to heat up the room for a little bit beforehand. And give yourself a break if you need to slip into thermal pajamas on the coldest nights – they’re often skin-tight anyway and you’ll be back to your sexy little things in no time. 😉 (Chemise by La Senza)
