Following in the footsteps of Roberto Cavalli, Jimmy Choo and Karl Lagerfeld, Sonia Rykiel is the most recent designer to team up with H&M to launch a guest line. For the holiday season the French house and the trendy retail chain will debut an accessibly-priced lingerie line, which will hit 1,500 H&M stores worldwide and major Sonia Rykiel boutiques around the world on December 5.
According to H&M’s creative advisor, Margareta van den Bosch, it was Sonia Rykiel’s 40th anniversary runway show (pictured right) that sparked their interest and led to the idea for the collaboration.
“This is a totally modern, new kind of lingerie look, and when we started to work with Rykiel on it, we just couldn’t stop,” said Bosch of the upcoming line. “It’s a wonderful highlight of our main collection.”
Rykiel—who has been dubbed the “Queen of Knits”—will also launch a knitwear collection in late February at H&M for women and girls accompanied by “playful accessories.”
“This collaboration fits perfectly with our philosophy,” said Nathalie Rykiel, president and artistic director of Sonia Rykiel. “The Sonia Rykiel pour H&M lingerie collection is the ideal way to offer the essence of Rykiel to a great number of women around the world, and a beautiful way to close the year.”
