An Interview with Sonja Christensen from Viola Sky

April 27, 2008 by Rene

The resurgence of Lingerie keeps spreading — outside of London, outside of New York, outside of Milan. From Denmark, Viola Sky is an emerging brand with a wholesale and retail strategy. I’m sure we’ll here more of their story as time unfolds.

Q. Who is Viola Sky?
A: Viola Sky has existed since the beginning of 2004. There are two designers behind the brand Dianna Wittig and Sonja Christensen.

Q. How many lines do you work with?
A: We work with two collections a year. In each collection we have three lines. our

  • Classic/fashion: Expresses ladylike elegance and beauty. The styles are simple but still with a detail.
  • Basic: Provides the girl young at heart, with casual and feminine everyday wear. The range is made out of a smooth and lovely viscose.
  • Boudoir: The boudoir range offers the eye candy of the collection. It is known for its humorous, kinky stile with oversized bows and frills that gives the range a decadent twist. The materials are typical thick beautiful silk satin.

Q: How do you find fabrics for your design?
A: When we are in Paris, we choose the fabrics that we want to work with.

Q: How about the design work?
A: We do all the design and fitting in Denmark. The we participate on CPH Vision in Copenhagen (a fashion fair with 27.000 buyers). We also do Salon de la Lingerie

Q: How do you handle sales to stockists?
A: Our sales period is 2-3 months. When the sale is closed, we order what we need for the production run. The production takes place in Eastern Europe. When we do our sales, it is also time to deliver the product from the last sale. So when the customer is placing future orders, they have just received their new goods from Viola Sky.

Q: Do you only handle wholesale?
A: We also have a lingerie shop in the city centre of Copenhagen. The shop is a pastel coloured boudoir where the lingerie is hanging from
crème coloured satin hangers. We serve up some designs on pretty cake plates inspired from French patisseries. We mainly carry our own brand, but we also have accessories, soaps, lip balms, make-up bags, and vintage stuff — everything carefully hand picked in Paris, London, and in flea markets.

Q. What are you doing currently?
A: We are dead busy here getting the A/W 08 ready for manufacturing
