Sound familiar? If you’ve ever run down a flight of stairs, jumped rope with your nieces, or tried a Zumba class, you’re no doubt familiar with that bouncing feeling. But Panache, a favorite brand among busty ladies, believes they have a remedy for that unsightly and painful bounce with their brand new sports bra.

The bra, slated to be released on October 1, is three years in the making. After extensive research, head designer Clare Fallon and her team at Panache enlisted the help of Loughborough Sports Technology Institute in Leicestershire. During their studies, the team outfitted a 32E model with 3-D motion sensors and set her to work on a treadmill. They found that while rival sports bras reduce bounce by a respectable 65%, the new Panache sports bra is even more effective with a bounce reduction of 83%. And if you look at this photo of British javelin thrower Goldie Sayers modeling the bra, I think you’ll agree that it somehow still manages to be one of the more attractive options out there! It also features a clip that allows you to convert the bra to a racerback style, so you can still wear it with your favorite workout tanks.

Most conventional sports bras use compression to press the breast tissue down against the rib cage. Panache instead opted to use an encapsulation style, which holds each breast separately in molded cups and controls movement from all angles. They claim that the product is as effective as “two hands holding the breasts.” (You can’t tell me you haven’t wished you could hold your boobs yourself while running!)

Interested? The bra will be available in D-H cups, and will set you back about £35. Basic black and white will be the first available in October, but you’ll have to wait until November for fashion colors. The style has so far only been referred to as simply “Panache Sports Bra.”

Are there any sports you’ve avoided because your sports bra didn’t offer enough support?

In the past year and a half, I’ve taken up running. I’m currently training for my second 10 mile race with plans to do a half marathon in the fall. Needless to say, with all of the miles I’m logging, I need to have a dependable, bounce reducing sports bra. I was recently introduced to the brand, Shock Absorber. Initially, I was impressed by the wide range of sizes accommodated. How wonderful that a brand would allow women from A-HH to exercise comfortably. Shock Absorber offers not only an ample range of sizes, but also a number of silhouettes and support levels to meet individual needs.

Shock Absorber has 2 ranges of sports bras – the classic, Core range and the newly introduced sport-specific range designed to meet the unique support needs for Run, Ball, and Racket. What I love about all of the bras produced by this UK brand is that they are each crafted as a result of scientific and technological research. On the website, you can view ‘The Bounceometer’ which shows the results of exercise on the breasts with no bra, a normal bra, and the Shock Absorber bra in sizes A – G. Results of the study showed that wearing a Shock Absorber sports bra reduces bounce by as much as 74%! Knowing the struggles that I (and many of my female friends) have had with finding supportive sports bras, I was up for the challenge!

In my recent race, I tested out the Max Sports Bra Top (see photo). Like the other Shock Absorber bras, this one featured breathable, moisture-wicking fabric that kept me cool for 10 miles. The support was amazing! I was impressed at how the internal shaping reduced bouncing without the addition of wires. If it wasn’t for my legs and knees being ready to give out, I could have easily ran 10 more miles! I loved the Max Sports Bra Top and look forward to trying out the Run bra next. With features like a soft, seamless inner to reduce friction, ’Infinity-8′ design, and a soft, non rub hook and eye, it is definitely worth investigating.

I’m not really into the ball or racket sports, but for those of you ladies who are, I’d love to hear your feedback on the Ball and Racket bras. The Ball bra is designed with ‘Arc-Control’, front adjustability, and an extra wide chest band to provide bounce control for high frequency sports like volleyball and basketball while the Racket bra is designed with ‘Dynamic-M’, front adjustability, and the innovative back strap glide device for freedom of arm movement. Definitely worth investigating if you need that kind of focused support!

The complete collection can be viewed at the Shock Absorber website. Check it out and find the fit that’s just right for you. Gone are days of taping your breasts or wearing 2 non-supportive sports bras. Invest in a Shock Absorber! Retailing from $45-$68, it is definitely worth every penny. Shock Absorber is found at some brick-and-mortar stores, but if you are like me and require a fuller cup, it is worth purchasing online. Unfortunately, most department stores in the U.S. (and even specialty athletic stores) don’t carry sports bras past DD. Try Bare Necessities or BoobyDoo. For additional stores, check the Store Locator.

Happy running, balling, tennising, yogaing, aerobicizing, and more!

When I wrote about the importance of a sports bra last month, I mentioned that I’m a fan of Shock Absorber bras, and that my bra size limits my selection. When people at Bendon Sport read that, they wanted to change my mind! Bendon sent me the Extreme Out High-Impact style, and asked me to try it instead of my Shock Absorber next time I hit the gym because it is specifically made for DD-G cups. I learned that Women’s Health brought a Bendon Sport bra (the Max Out style) on The Today Show in the US last year, where it was crowned “the Porsche of sports bras.” Bendon bras have been worn and tested by many high profile athletes, including the entire Australian netball team, and a variety of runners (including Allison Roe, the former marathon world record holder). So I have to admit, I had pretty high expectations for this bra before I even received it.

When I put the bra on, I noticed right away that it is very comfortable – there are no itchy seams or pinchy bits. There are tags on the band, but they are long and silky, so I didn’t even don’t even notice them. I actually was thinking that the bra was tagless until I specifically checked! I was very pleasantly surprised to see that that the Bendon Sport bra gave a very natural and seamless silhouette. It shaped my chest more like an everyday T-shirt bra than than a lumpy, unattractive sports bra. I know that the gym isn’t a fashion runway, but it was still nice to know that my assets looked their best! I went to the gym with my boyfriend that day, and even he commented on the difference and improvement my new bra made in my appearance. The fabric was light and quite breathable, so I was comfortable throughout my workout. Another happy surprise was when I found that the straps are convertible, so I had the option to wear them normally or to crisscross them – perfect for wearing underneath racerback workout tanks! It actually wouldn’t be so bad if the straps were to poke out a bit, however, as they are relatively slim (compared to some other fuller-figure sports bras) even though they were comfortably cushioned.

The only disappointing thing about the bra is that it doesn’t come in my size. I wear a 30 band, but Bendon Sport’s size range begins at 32. I was optimistic when the bra came in a size 32, and wore it on the tightest hooks. But the Extreme Out bra seems to run true to size, and was just too big for me. I was comfortable in my yoga and Pilates classes, but an incorrect bra size is very apparent when you want to run on the treadmill! You guys know that I’m very particular about wearing well-fitting bras, so I will sadly have to retire mine. Don’t let that deter you, though – if you are within the size range of the Bendon Sport bras, I think they will work wonderfully for you. The sports bra is very high-quality, and has a sturdy three-row, three-column band to anchor firmly to you. I was also glad to see that the cups had comfortable foam-covered underwires for extra support, and busty ladies know how critical support is!

We all know that one of the most common New Year’s resolutions is to lose weight. But before you can lose the weight, you need to make preparations. Start paying attention to your diet, join a gym, sign up for a spinning class – but one of the most important preparations you can make is to buy yourself a sports bra! According to the Omnibus Company and Kelton Research, 3 out of 4 of you aren’t wearing a specialty sports bra when exercising. Some of you think your regular bra is good enough – wrong! An ordinary bra only reduces breast movement by about 38% but in a recent test, Shock Absorber bras were found to reduce movement by about 74%! Some of you think that smaller breasts don’t need the extra control a sports bra provides – wrong again! Even when Shock Absorber tested 34A chests, the breasts moved significantly during exercise. The average movement is 40mm away from the breasts’ resting position. Sports bras are beneficial even if you aren’t running or bouncing around – I use mine for even gentle exercise, like while walking or doing yoga. By wearing a sports bra regularly, you will be more comfortable during exercise, your breasts will be less sore after exercise, and you may help slow breast sag.

The bestselling sports bras at Figleaves US and Figleaves UK are Shock Absorbers. At Freshpair, the bestselling style is a Donna Karan style (and it’s on sale right now!). Personally, I haven’t had the opportunity to try many different brands because my large chest limits my selection. But I wear a Shock Absorber and am really happy with it, so I can see why they are so popular at Figleaves, in all sizes!

Remember, it’s a good idea to get properly sized yearly (or even more often). But when you start exercising and melting away those pounds, you should get sized every couple months. Weight loss can significantly affect your breast size. You want to make sure you’re wearing the right bra so you look your best while showing off your new body!

Belgian Luxury Lingerie label Marie Jo has just released a new line of its Marie Jo Intense line — a sports bra collection trying to not just support your breasts, but also keep your feminine silhouette while doing whatever sports you enjoy.

I’ve tried these Intense bras myself and I’m a fan. The underwires Marie Jo uses for this line (yes, underwired sports bras!) are so well-placed that you have no clue they’re even there. The wires do keep to help your figure look great under any kind of tight sports garments though, while providing excellent support.

I got the following press release in my mailbox a couple days ago and I have to say this looks very promising:

Summer is upon us and women across the country have been working endlessly to get their bods beach ready. But how do women keep the motivation through the fall season? In this critical time, confidence is key to keeping women motivated and committed to their workout routines.

In order to get the most out of their workouts, full-busted women seek a sports bra that bans the bounce while working out. Luckily, full-figured bra designer Lilyette® has the answer! The new Lilyette® in Motion™ sports bra collection launches today and offers full -busted women everywhere a solution. To help launch the new collection, Brooke Burke is lending her support to the campaign to spread the word.

Designed for extreme comfort with maximum support, Lilyette® in motion™ sports bras will be sure to keep the girls in check, while still looking good. Two encapsulating cups keeps the chest separated and prevents the dreadful uni-boob. And if that isn’t enough, the collection offers both wire and wire-free styles in three different levels of support specifically geared towards various levels of activity. So whether striking the downward dog yoga pose or dishing out a powerful serve, Lilyette® has you covered.

“I am so excited to be working with Lilyette® on this launch. Finally there is something comfortable and supportive for those of us who need it” says Brooke Burke. “I work hard to keep my body in top condition, and I understand the importance of finding a sports bra that supports you during a workout.

Many myths are handed down from our grandmothers and mothers. For example, white is not an acceptable colour before the Easter holiday. And white is never worn in winter. But times have changed and attitudes change even though some of the old myths still linger. So here is a quick summary of undergarment myths and the truths or solutions to fix the problem.

MYTH 1 – White underpants are best under summer white pants and skirts.
TRUTH 1 – A nude or beige colour fades under the white pants.

While it seems logical that white under white would be the best choice, the reality is that white is a poor choice as underwear. In fact, when one wears crisp white panties under a stark white skirt or pair of dress pants, the area that displays the underwear is so bright and pronounced, it looks ridiculous. Skin tones, nudes and beige coloured panties are best if you want to divert the attention away from your undergarments.

MYTH 2 – Bras that are uncomfortable in the back are too small.
TRUTH 2 – Bras that are too big can cause discomfort.

While we tend to think that an uncomfortable bra in the back area means that the bra is too small, the opposite is generally the case. When a bra is too big, it causes the front to move around and the cups are therefore not in a supportive position. What happens is the weight of the breasts drag the bra down in the front causing the back to ride up making you think the back is too small. If the back was tightened, it would hold the front in place keeping you comfortable.

MYTH 3 – Any bra will work when exercising.
TRUTH 3 – A properly supportive sports or exercise bra should be used when running, participating in aerobics, and any other activities where there is excessive stress on the body.

Sports bras are made to restrict movement. The actual cause of bra pain when exercising comes from several factors. First, the breasts bouncing up and down will make them tender and sore. Second, as the bra rubs on the skin creating friction, it causes sores, welts and burns that are painful and take some time to heal. Third, regular bras are more flimsy than sports bras. Athletic bras generally have wide straps, good back support and the better designs use materials with wicking properties to keep you dry and prevent chafing.

It is sometimes hard for bigger-boobed ladies to play their favorite sports. Gravity and momentum become painful and uncomfortable enemies as we run, but now we can go to the field better equipped to stave them off. There is now a new line of sports bras line created specifically for the challenges busty women face: Freya Active by Freya. Blogleaves quoted Dr. Chris Steele of This Morning as saying:

“Consider sports bras such as the Freya Active range, which are unique in their design as they shape and lift rather than compressing your bust whilst offering the ultimate in support and comfort.”

This new line comes just on the heels of a British study which found that typical sports bras (which flatten the chest uniformly to keep breasts from moving up and down) don’t help prevent the most painful front-and-back and side-to-side motions. Thankfully, Freya Active features separate cups on the new sports bras, which ease discomfort as they reduce movement in all directions. Find these new products at Figleaves (UK/US).
