At first glance, the models in this picture may have looked to be wearing nothing at all. And well, that’s kind of the point. We’ve all seen “nude” bras and panties, designed to be invisible under sheer or white clothing. These basics work great – that is, if they actually match your skintone. Somehow, so many lingerie companies seem to only carry one “nude” tone, which is ridiculous considering how many different skin tones there are in the world! Well, one brand has finally realized how silly this is and stepped up to the plate – MySkins has lingerie in twenty different shades, from Honey to Espresso, to provide a far closer match than traditional “nude” underthings ever could. The seamless bras and panties provide a virtually undetectable layer beneath your clothing, so everyone notices you – not your underwear.

As one would surmise from their name and logos, the company is situated in Paris, France and was founded and managed by the Bena family until 2006. The company’s official website best describes their longevity and success story. They are a family and ultimately a corporate entity that took risks, adapted and innovated to the point where they became a world-renowned organization.

The family has since sold controlling interest to an equity firm in 2006 but the Barbara of Paris Fall 2008 Collection has already hit the runways this month in Las Vegas and New York at Lingerie Americas.

Many luxury lingerie companies focus on one or two products or lines making them the signature product. Barbara, on the other hand, has endeavoured to create all types of lingerie including sleepwear, swimwear, underwear, shaping garments, foundation garments and specialty items such as maternity and plus sizes. But they do not compromise quality and image in order to produce such variations in selection.

And, while the Bena family may now only own about thirty percent of Barbara, the new regime continues to focus on family values and the virtues of looking good with quality products. The 2008 advertising campaign emphasizes the bond between a mother and a daughter, which closely parallels the historic value of the Barbara of Paris line. The campaign’s underlying message is that family is important and Barbara has always been a successful family concern.

The Spring/Summer Collection, which is being sold in specialty boutiques now, is simply delightful with names such as Fleurs du sucre, Thé au jasmine and Macarons. The collection is best described by the company itself as “an appetising pic-nic” of “sweet sensations”. Think of perfumes, fruity colors such as pink raspberry, peach tea and apricot and creamy textures inspired by Japanese flower gardens.

The 2008 Autumn/Winter collection is launched and it includes many individual collections and pieces. The pieces are undisputedly gorgeous and Fine Lines is a beautiful range of lingerie but the website is lacking in information as to the fabrics and trimmings. Bras and panties this lovely should be described.

Bright and vibrant colours, pretty delicate prints and bold sexy statements characterize the collections called Glamour, Rose Garden and Seduction. The Carnation collection consists of an underwire contour bra with matching brief or g-string and a sweet little chemise with g-string. Available in pink/marine and cream/blush, the bodice detailing is exquisite.

Available in May 2008, the Body Essentials five way convertible bra in mulberry comes with an extra strap so that the bra can be worn regular, halter, halter low back, regular low back and cross over back. The Intimacy Collection is gorgeous in delicate rose pink intimacy and intense burgundy intimacy. Four pieces make up the set. Pull on bustier with garter straps, brief underpants, and underwire contour bra with pretty lace knicker panties.

Fine Lines Lingerie also offers a Sports Collection line as well as a Convertible Maternity Bra. According to Vogue.com.au, Fine Lines has been in business since 1989 and “are synonymous with producing up-to-the-minute fashion, bridal and special occasion lingerie, as well as the best everyday push-up, t-shirt and strapless bras”.

Some of the items are available online through their own website and shipped internationally but most are sold through authorized stockists. Performing a quick search provided websites such as BraShop.co.nz and ModaLingerie.com.au who sell pieces of the Fine Lines Collections.

Recently in February 2008, Royce launched several new ranges of bras. At the Harrogate Lingerie & Swimwear Exhibition, trade customers were introduced to the new line of Caress Indulgence mastectomy bras as well as the new “AAA” sized bra and a padded Missy two pack. Royce’s best selling bra Sophie with X-STATIC silver fibre has now been made into a pocketed version as well.

X-STATIC silver fibre is said to inhibit bacteria, reduce odour, regulate body temperature and minimize static. As an added bonus, the fibre contains no chemicals and is environmentally friendly.

While all of Royce’s designs are made for quality and comfort, their Candy nursing bra and panty set is really quite sweet, not at all similar to the old fashioned nursing bras. Meticulous attention to detail and intelligent features such as the retainer strap to keep the shoulder strap in place while feeding demonstrate why Royce has become the expert in specialist lingerie.

The Savannah with discreet pockets for breast form has the prettiest embroidered detailing on the straps and is lightly padded to keep the bra looking smooth. Every line in the Royce collection of lingerie is feminine, sexy and inviting to wear. The company has obviously done their homework when creating and designing this collection to help women feel more confident, more secure and comfortable throughout the day and night.

Sober, and pretty!

Still, after taking a closer look at the pieces, it seems like a very good “bang for buck”-brand. Flirtatious and hip lingerie at great prices. Lovely bras of well under $20 are no exception! For their Spring 2008 collection they went for shades of cool greens, sweet pinks, berry blues and warm yellows — a pairing to summer wardrobes. The line features a variety of styles in both bras and panties that will make (and I quote) “what goes under your clothes as much of a fashion statement as the clothes themselves”.

I like the looks, but I suggest you make up your own opinion — we’ve got pics!

The new collection is nothing crazy: sober but pretty designs, lots of basic pieces that are obviously created with daily wear in mind — but, all at very affordable prices (too bad they’re in Euro though, which means they’re not that affordable for our US readers!). Blacks, whites, ivories, … Everything just breaths out sober elegance. At these prices: I appreciate that!
