Playful Promises is breathing a sigh of relief now the crazy busy trade show period has finally come to an end. After weeks of preparation, getting postcards sent to our customers, and making sure we had all of the samples for our new collection to show off, we started our trade show tour at Top Drawer where our cute satin Zodiac Knickers were ever popular – good to remind everyone when your birthday is coming up! Then came Bread and Butter in Barcelona. Waving designer Louise off with a huge suitcase of samples in one hand, a bag full of prospective outfits for this fashionable affair in the other, and a precariously balanced wire mannequin under her arm was great entertainment for those of us who had the pleasure of watching (and not helping!) The New Playful Promises Collection Looks GreatThis was soon to be followed by Salon International de la Lingerie in Paris, the Harrogate Lingerie and Swimwear Exhibition and finally the Preview Exhibition in Australia!

Top Drawer is also where Playful Promises brand new Beauty range was unveiled to the masses so make sure you keep a look out! We have noticed a trend in Lingerie brands adding beauty and cosmetic ranges to their line. I think this is a natural progression for Playful Promises as we are all about being flirty and dressing up and are aiming to create an ultimate girlie boudoir collection.

Funny, how different products sell in each channel. The internet is definitely more specialist or more simple. It sounds contradictory but what we see is, that people seem to look either for the special stuff, that doesnt sell at every corner, or for brands they know well and trust, like Princesse tam tam. And then there are other really beautiful products that just don’t seem to get a foot off the ground. Whereas in the store, we suddenly sell brands that didnt sell at all over the net. But when people see these things and try them on, they are suddenly totally enthused and buy it.

Same for Valentines day. These sort of special occasions sell really well over the internet. A lot of men bought lingerie or little accessories over the last two weeks for their Valentine. In the boutique nobody seemed interested in our Valentines accessories. We don’t know why. By far our best selling items over the Internet in February were the gift boxes by Bijoux Indiscrets. But only during the past weeks. Men seemed to love the Agent Secret Set or the Regard Indiscret one. Probably it felt safe, they dont need to bother about such complicated things as cup sizes;-). And obviously they know that they benefit as well…

Bijoux Indiscrets is one of our discoveries coming back from SIL in Paris. Another one was S.P.A.N.K: Sexy Panties and Naughty Knickers. A brand we love. Totally cute bras and knickers fashioned in pure silk chiffon with a gorgeous design and wonderfully pastel colours. Perfect for spring! Its a new brand for us and for most of Germany, so we are really curious how it will sell. But judging from the first customer reactions, people seem to love it.

Pretty polka dots make the look very pretty and girly — lovely! An excellent reason for a first appearance of Denny Rose on TLP!

We were profiled during a conference for international press and buyers and invited by the Mayor of Paris to a private party at the Museum of Modern Art on Saturday night. Dream-come-true stuff!

It’s a lot of work to participate in the show before, during and after – but it’s worth every late night. I came away feeling really energised and inspired. I’m a few years away from having a huge glossy stand with it’s own champagne bar and catwalk…but it’s good to have a goal! My overriding impression from the show was that the world is a very big place…it’s really opened up possibilities that I wouldn’t have had access to. Bravo Paris!

Birthing Patrick & Skinner has been more valuable in gaining knowledge than any lecture I have attended. Now it is truly born, I must nurture, love and cherish it like a child, those of you who are parents will know that all the nurture, love and cherish needs to keep coming! I have been in a cyclone since I last touched base here. We had pieces in the Lingerie Buyer, WWB, and Scarlet that have been valuable. The Women’s Wear Daily in NY has used some Raspberry Bits for an editorial in Feb and kindly sent me a snap shot of the model pre-shoot that I have attached for you. I had a phone interview with ‘Body’ Magazine in the States in order to broaden the awareness of P&S to a global one. I found myself slipping in and out of the American twang the more I was sucked into the interview much to the amusement of those sitting around me. The interview was most valuable and I’m thankful that the contact was made.

Patrick and Skinner look bookLook Books are finished and have been flying out like hot cakes! We are hand making them in house leaving Sarah my fantastic assistant falling asleep on the laminator most evenings but she has done a fabulous job. I have been creating the look for the new collection “The Sweetie Shop” inspired from old school sweetie shops, hard-boiled candies, and 1950s & 60’s swimwear patterns. I would like to get 3 trilogies out this year starting with “The Custard Creams”. We will be bringing you Rhubarb & Custard, Apple & Custard and Banana & Custard as an introduction. The sleep-deprived nights have already begun though made much easier by my magic fabric genie (fabric specialist Mike) that dives into every corner of the world sourcing only the most luscious silks & lace for our creations.

I’m actually typing this on a Train from Gare De Nord to the CDGSalon de Paris Patrick Skinner airport in Paris returning from The Salon international de la lingerie which can I say was stunning. The world’s most beautiful brands mixed with rustic scent of the Parisian atmosphere brought a UNdeniable feel to the expo. I did not exhibit but was there having some power meetings as well as getting a glimpse of future trends and the creative boom seeping from some of the Lingerie Houses. While tottering around the expo I could not help becoming aware of the sea of ‘Men in Suits’ controlling most brand stands. Do they really know what women want? It’s so odd to hear the bustle of buyers discussing cup comfort and underwire with someone who has never worn a bra! Or maybe this is the secret to their success; maybe there is more going on under those suits than I thought!

The phrase I will remember most over the past year will be “Structured Bra” the one thing I did not do which will be the most priceless piece I could add to future collections. The high-end niche brand market is defiantly broader than the skinny sloanies.

I’m learning more and more daily about the markets suited to my brand. The U.A.E being one of them. DiaDiwan the fabulous Saudi fashion site is aiding me in opening this market by featuring us in a major give away of extremely high retail worth. It really is another world, one I defiantly plan to explore. I had better stop there or I will be going to terminal 2 for my flight instead of 3. I’m leaving as the sun sets on Paris to return to pool of work and timescales and you know what, im excited!

The luxury designer has done some great bra and panties sets — but I’m simply adoring the more decadent pieces; the lavender camisole, the sheer robe, the sheer lace top, the babydoll and the breathtaking white dress. They’re true highlights of a great collection! They’re trying to retain their “designer of the year” trophy at the Salon International de la Lingerie in Paris this week, I’m sure!
