“Most bra-measurement systems don’t take into account breast shape, tissue, and placement on the chest,” says Eve. “So women with small breasts often end up wearing ill fitting bras with cups that are too small and bands that are too big.”

To encourage petite-busted women to find their true size and best matching brands, the “Size Up the Web” campaign features a complimentary online bra fitting just by visiting Eve’s Apples Lingerie!

“Our complimentary online bra fittings work for small-busted women of all body types – tall, short, broad or slim,” says Eve. “Women do their own measurements in the privacy of their home, then we review each submission personally and determine her true bra size based on all of the factors – not just chest circumferance and breast size.”

In the February 2011 issue of Cosmopolitan, Eve offered bra-fitting tips to help women flaunt smaller breasts. However, she recommends going through the online fitting because some shapes are especially challenging.

"Desiree" by Lula Lu Petites

Lula Lu, a petite lingerie shop which we’ve discussed a few times on TLP, has plans to introduce an AAA cup bra for those who don’t quite fit into an AA. Ellen Shing, owner of Lula Lu, said:

I have to say, when I first started I was like “Does this size really exist?” The double A is already quite a small size. However, when I started to fit people I realized there was definitely a need for the triple A. I have customers call me, and this is how they describe themselves, “I’m nipples on ribs.”…They don’t have much but they are still women. They want something that fits them and touches their skin. The worst I’ve heard is that they’re too small for their A cup bra so it sits away from their breast. They tell me stories of being at work and bending down to pick something up and their shirt is tucked into their bra. They’re just mortified. They want something that hugs their curves and that they’re confident in.

The first bra that will be released in the new sizes is Desiree, which will be available on July 2. You can pre-order now.

Designer Jennifer Shepard had been toying with the idea in the back of her mind for a while long before attending design school. “My sister and I could never find what we wanted. When we did find a comfortable, attractive bra that fit, we would buy them in every color and then wear them until the elastic threads were popping out. They were a bit embarrassing.”

Shepard believes that a woman should always be beautifully dressed beneath her clothes. With that idea in mind she incorporates the most beautiful stretch laces and trims, most of which are imported from France, into simple, elegant designs, which are fitted and re-fitted to be comfortable and flattering. “I believe that my customer will want to wear these pieces every day,” Shepard says.

Kate Gibson Lingerie’s workmanship process is extremely fascinating as a new pattern is fabricated for each customer. Even more interesting is the fact that all the pieces are cut by hand even though some bras use upwards of thirty individual sections. The pieces are then sewn together by an experienced seamstress using a highly precisioned machine. Beads, embroidery and other fancy embellishments are then meticulously sewn on by hand. The last stage in the process is to check the exact measurements of the garment ensuring they are correct for the intended customer and then the garment is given one last quality control check. Once the garment is approved, it is shipped to the customer. The whole detail oriented process from receipt of order to shipping takes as many as eight weeks.

So fastidious with sizing and fit, the company does not even use standard sizes of wires, bands and straps. Each add-on piece is custom fitted to the woman’s size so that when finished, the garment is perfectly made. Even the thickness of the garment relates to the woman’s real body so that she does not encounter any discomfort when wearing the undergarments.

Although, the company sells bras, knickers and nightgowns, it is not possible to order knickers alone. The customer chooses the type of knicker, whether it is bikini, demi-bikini or brief, and then the company makes a set to match. So what differentiates The Little Bra Company’s bras from any other bras in the same size? Lau says that the cups don’t gap, which is often a problem in smaller sizes. The back cut is smaller, and the cups are closer together than most bras to enhance cleavage. The bras are available in sizes 32A-36B. I have to admit, I’m surprised that the band only goes down to a 32. It seems that a company dedicated to “little bras” would make a point to serve even the daintiest of our readers!
