Two collections, “Bright Future” and “Silver Lining” are the same styling but with a different color mix. As one would expect from the name, Bright Future, the pieces include bold hues and accents in Peechy Keen, Coming Up Roses, Smooth Sailing, and In The Limelight. Sizes range from X-small to X-large or zero through sixteen.

Silver Lining is the pastel version of the two collections with Sapphire Mist, Glistening Green, Blue Glass, and Orchid Ice. Pieces are not sold individually but rather in predetermined sets. But with everything in similar colors, it is easy to mix and match when one buys more than one set or style.

The latest collection is titled “Girls Night Out”, and it’s my favorite.

A delicate ensemble, the pink pajama set is very stylish and elegant while appearing super comfy. Machine washable, made of seventy-five percent silk and twenty-five percent cotton, the sleeveless top is adorned with a lovely lace medallion on the front and an intricate array of lace detailing extending from the shoulders down the back of the top. Both front and back are sexy v-necklines. Plain elastic waistband pants are finished off with a small side slit at the bottom of each pant leg complemented by a frilly hem giving the pants are very feminine appearance.

Although, the above knee length sleep gown is very basic, the triangle shape and straight line embroidery along the hem makes this casual dress quite pretty. The structured, round, braided neckline adds to the femininity of the piece. Made from one hundred percent pure spunsilk, this sweet dress is warm, absorbent and pliable, all excellent fabric qualities for sleeping garments.

In addition to the silk cotton and spunsilk jersey, WinterSilks designs their fashionable garments from silk charmeuse, silk modal, and silk filament. Their silk modal camisoles are very soft and lightweight and are perfect for layering in cooler weather, ideal for work out sessions, and are luxurious enough to wear with a dressy outfit.

The company’s Snowflake Guide is a useful resource when purchasing items from WinterSilks as it categorizes the warmth of the fabrics and garments into Warm, Warmer and Warmest. One last unique characteristic of the brand’s silk garments is that many are machine washable.

Made of one hundred percent cotton flannel or cotton poplin, the collection includes pajamas, robes, sleep shirts, capri sets, shorts, pants and camis. At this time of the year, however, the flannel print is limited in design because flannel is typically worn in the winter months. But the colourful selection of poplin, a crisp, woven cotton fabric, is the perfect material for hot summer nights.

The poplin prints are amusing designs including fish called “sushi”, dogs labeled “best in show”, flowers named “hydrangea” and “in bloom”, food termed “cherry” and “sweet dreams” cake, crossword puzzles and pretty pastel gingham. Colours are varied in off-white, pink, green, white and blue. Apparently the sushi pattern is the most popular print of the group.

There is a choice of styling for both the tops and bottoms with the pants available in shorts, capri length, low-rise, and regular PJ. Tops are offered in long night shirt styles, short and long-sleeved blouse type shirts, as well as tank tops which include a hint of spandex knit to allow a form fitting appearance. And the matching robes finish the comical sets off nicely.

Proudly manufactured in the USA, the company prefers to keep production local to the San Francisco Bay area. Sizing ranges from X-small to X-large, which are approximately, sizes four through sixteen. They do apologize for not being able to offer larger sizes due to the fact that The Cat’s Pajamas is a small enterprise. Even so, this is a delightful line of sleepwear with plenty of visibility on popular television shows such as “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, “Will and Grace” and “Gilmore Girls”. Grown out of humble beginnings in her dining room, Annie Selke from Massachusetts, USA, has created a large home décor business that offers bedding, curtains, pillows, rugs and sleepwear. Included in the extensive sleepwear collection are robes made of linen, cotton, fleece, voile or willow knit, kaftans in cotton voile, lounging dresses, tank tops and tees in willow knit, as well as pyjamas in one hundred percent cotton.

The beautifully woven fabrics set this collection apart from other sleepwear labels. Such a range of colours and prints from plaids to florals, and stripes to dots, it will take some time to decide which pyjama set to purchase. Long pyjama pants come with drawstring waist and long-sleeved tops finished with a breast pocket. Capri sets are shorter pants with sleeveless tops.

All of the collection can be mixed and matched as each solid colour complements the designs of the colourful prints. The willow knit collection of dresses and tops is actually ninety-five percent bamboo and five percent spandex making these pieces comfortable for sleeping or for leisure wear on a hot summer day. Crew tops, pants and robes in “sheepy fleece” add depth to the collection by providing even more variety.

Initiated in 1993, Annie Selke has become a “whose-who” in the home décor business with her designs showcased in all the most respected magazines and on numerous television shows. One can quickly tell that she has a flair for fashion as her gorgeous sleepwear uses fabrics and designs that are not seen anywhere else.

A family run business, whose closeness with nature inspired the slogan “get clothes to nature” as well as their “green” manufacturing methods, the company is headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. They offer plenty of colours, assorted appliqués on the front of the tank tops such as hearts, bears, fish, horses and flowers, and sizes ranging from small to extra large.

Although, the sleepshirts only come in one size, the double meaning expressions on the front of the shirts make them perfect gifts. For example, the caption on one shirt says, “Roll in the Hay” and then the photos show different animals playfully rolling around in a pile of hay. Another expression says, “One Night Stand” and the corresponding picture is an actual wooden nightstand with lamp.

Matching boxers, pyjama bottom pants, rubber boots and socks round out this comfortable, environmentally conscious collection.

While the company produces their standard ladies night items such as gowns, robes and pyjamas in silk and cotton, the Spring 2008 collection is made from organic cotton jersey. Delicately, feminine separates with lace trimmings include the Anna camisole, t-shirt, boxer short, and pretty lace trimmed shorts in pure white. The rose coloured Rebecca collection is plain but elegant looking. Both collections are unique as they offer a pair of matching culottes to complete the ensembles.

Derek Rose also uses silk with MicroModal that is made from environmentally friendly beech wood derived from sustainable forests. The mix of the two fabrics creates a lightweight, comfortable product that prevents irritation of the skin. Further, in both the pyjama and nightshirt series, Derek Rose produces a Vintage 1880 nightdress and pair of pyjamas in one hundred percent cotton.

Another elegant set launched for the Spring 2008 season is the Kerala Kimono gown and nightdress. A pretty knee length dress (nightgown) in one hundred percent cotton with v-neck styling and tie around the waist looks lovely with the matching knee length kimono gown (robe) with elbow length sleeves. The set is perfect for lounging or sleeping.

Fleur’t is possibly best known for its super comfortable and super soft lulu’s boy pant! To accommodate the wide range of women who swear by this staple, lulu’s boy pant are now available in two new sizes – Petite/Small and Large/Large in addition to the already existing Small/Medium and Medium/Large! And the sizes aren’t the only new addition. Fleur’t has added an assortment of fun, eye-popping colors and cute, sassy patterns. I’m a fan of the solids papaya and pink lavender as the patterns lemongrass damask and rose giraffe! Also find these colors and patterns in the low-rise thong, lace v-thong, and g-string. The lulu collection, which in addition to the boy pant and low-rise thong, includes a bralet, criss-cross cami, lace strap cami, long cami, criss-cross chemise, and a new yoga pant! Mix and match them all for a cute and cozy look. The amber collection is a fleur’t favorite featuring pretty lace overlays. Again, the pieces in this group can be mixed and matched. In addition to the camis and chemise, the amber collection is noted for its delicate kimono robe. New to the amber collection are a lace bralet and matching ½ lace thong boy.

Spring/Summer 2008

The Spring/Summer collection is already in stores and will continue to appear in stores over the next few months. One new group for spring, valerie, features heathered rayon spandex in black and grey edged with ivory stretch cluny lace. Both the empire cami and chemise are marked by a very fleur’ty open front. The same stretch lace accents both the tunic and cropped ruffle pant.

I love the chantal group as it reflects a new trend in fleur’t lingerie – prints! Made of silk charmeuse and overlaid with lace, chantal is perfect for lounging or sleeping. In addition to hot pink and aqua, the lace bust cami and chemise and coordinating boxer short also is available in coral swirl or aqua swirl prints.

With spring comes an influx of weddings, so vanessa is perfect for the blushing bride. Choose from a lace front low-rise thong, lace bralet, and lace bust cami and chemise.

Speaking of prints (again), jessica is an all print group that evokes a youthful spirit! Pair the cami with the matching lace brief or long wide leg pant or the chemise with the lace v-thong. Prints include pink leopard, green floral, pink polka dot, and ivory polka dot!

If all of this wasn’t already enough, lulu has to make an impression on spring! Look for lulu in light, airy springy colors like white, sky, and pink! In April, lulu is available in pink, lemon, and seafoam before brightening things up in May with whimsical colors like fuchsia, papaya, and orchid. Perfect for the tropical vacation you will need around that time! After all that fun, it will be time for rest and relaxation. Muted colors like ivory, pink, and black are accented with a silvery shade called dove, reflecting the calm and serene onset of summer.

There are so many other exciting elements to the collection including more prints, more bright colors, and more styles. I love the low rise ruched back panty in the amy collection as I think the ruched looked is absolutely darling and flatters the female form. Additionally, it is edged with a sweet heart shaped elastic, which I am sure will make it popular with lots of ladies. I also like the agatha collection as it offers a new tunic dress for the client who wants a little more coverage. In the caroline collection, there are a range of styles with a variety of coverage options. Choose from the spaghetti strapped, lace bust cami and chemise or the lace tank and tank dress featuring wider straps for additional coverage.
