Her appeal is getting quite a bit of media attention as she’s representing a high profile nation, and because of her own high profile, being well known in the UK as “Combat Barbie,” being a soldier who joined the army when she was 16 and having served in Iraq.

Katrina proposes to replace the Swimsuit round with a “sports challenge”. “I think it’s nerve-racking enough for girls to get up on a stage and speak, let alone appear in a swimsuit,” she said.

Doesn’t she think having to hit a baseball or having to sink a free throw in front of millions would be even more stressful?

La Senza has picked British female soldier Katrina Hodge—who was also the charming second place winner of this year’s Miss England contest—to front the campaign.

Nicknamed Combat Barbie by her fellow soldiers, Hodge is a unique 22-year-old who was awarded a medal of bravery for disarming an insurgent while on tour of Iraq. She has recently been promoted to the level of Corporal.

“I’m so proud of this campaign and I really hope that it encourages other high street stores to offer discounts to men and women in the armed forces,” she said.

How does she feel about her newfound fame? “I am enjoying the attention and profile, but my job is still as an Army soldier,” she said. “I love the Army life and if this encourages more women to join up, then that would be brilliant.”
