Inspired by Queen Victoria, the Victorian Gothic era, and other things dark and exotic, the Fall/Winter collection features intricate details, interesting patterns, and intriguing designs.

Fall/Winter 1, currently available in stores, is inspired by Victorian Indian Summer with unique collections including Wild Life, a exotic, safari inspired pattern (incorporating zebra, leopard, and tiger markings!), Language of Flowers, featuring pops of a bold, floral pattern, Oriental Beauty, inspired by Persian palace architecture, Salomina, inspired by the geometry of Persian carpets, and Queer Pets, featuring an embroidered monogram as an accent to both the bras and panties.  Each group in cludes a variety of bra styles including padded plunge, padded plunge balcony, unpadded plunge balcony, and padded french balcony.  Corresponding panties include a thong, brazilian short, tanga, brief, and short.

Fall/Winter 2, Dark Fever, explores a parallel universe.  The Deamon collection, named after the wild animal alter egoes of The Golden Compass, include accent prints of snakes against raspberry red and leopard against chocolate brown.  The show stopper?  The animal print trims are zippers!  Hot!  The other collections include Dark Victoria, a classic floral lace pattern of black on grey inspired by the  elaborate mourning fashion of Queen Victoria, Beautiful Bat, black microfibre accented with leather and inspired by Victorian Gothic Horror and lady vampires, Masked Ball, black microfibre accented with ruffled elastic trim and edgy miniature gunmetal studs, Divination, featuring prints of 19th century copperplate writing and mythical creatures inspired by fortune telling and tarot cards, and Secret Society, a black stretch mesh featuring prints in silvery grey flock.  In addition to the bra and panty styles listed above, this range features a very sexy waspie in Dark Victoria, knitted top in Beautiful Bat, jersey top and eyemask in Masked Ball, suspender in Divination, and a body (aka teddy), peek-a-boo unpadded plunge, and stockings in Secret Society.

Christmas Crackers is the theme for Fall/Winter 3.  Collections include Key to Deliverance, black velvety flock on black mesh is accented by tiny patterned keys in gunmetal is inspired by A Christmas Carol, Red Xmas, a poinsettia colored collection sprinkled with glittering rhinestones, The Spirit of Christmas, styled with engraved flowers in deep purples and accented with a favorite phrase of Marlies, ‘Let me lead you elsewhere to that boundless space where your spirit is already free,’ Christmas Baubles, a ribbon braid  accented holly red microfibre celebrating the Victorian tradition of decorating a fir tree, and Global Fireworks, the Swarovski crystal adorned, Platinum collection which pays tribute to New Year’s Eve celebrations.  Again, the collection features a range of mix and match options for bras and panties and also include stockings in The Spirit of Christmas and suspenders, a babydoll, and a nightgown in Global Fireworks.

Love Poem is a stunning, vertical cup balconette bra featuring embroidery accented by satin buttons.  Available through size G, choose from the sweet Antique White/Teal or the sassy Ombre Blue/Pink.  A matching bikini is also available.

Adoring, one of the most popular Fayreform silhouettes, is a glamorous everyday piece in which women through size J can feel comfortable and confident!  The underwire bra and corresponding bikini come in two vibrant color palettes – Teal/Antique White and Ombre Blue/Afterglow.

Who says full cupped bras don’t plunge?  Aventine, made of a unique open lace, is one of Fayreform’s plunge bras.  The crisp White color of both bra and bikini make for a simple and elegant look.

More plunge!  Tea Garden is another plunge silhouette with matching bikini.  In Bridal Rose/Pink, the detailing of this piece is extraordinary!  With contrast embroidery and rigid tulle, this set will make any woman feel fantastic!

Sunday Drive is divine!  Featuring a stretch lace balconette bra and corresponding bikini, choose from Ombre Blue/Rose and White.  So striking!

Ornate is exactly that.  Ornate and opulent!  I love the contrast of the Blue and Black Iris balconette bra.  The matching bikini is also alluring.

Profile Perfect and Profile Perfect Alight are the basic, contour silhouettes.  Profile Perfect is made of moulded jacquard foam and is available in Black, Pearl, and Latte.  For Spring, it is also available in the fashion color, Ombre Blue.  Profile Perfect Alight is made of microfibre and stretch lace available in Black and Latte, but for Spring, it is also available in Ombre Blue.

Profile Perfect Allure is the new contour bra for Spring.  In the lovely spring shade Purple/Vanilla, it is a combination of stretch lace and spot mesh over a contour cup.  My favorite detail is the double strap.  This bra is paired with a boyleg brief.

The pieces up for review are the “Nylon Spandex Micro-Mesh Triangle Cross-Back Bra,” the matching “Low Slung Panty” (both in fluorescent pink), and the “Screen Print Baby Rib Thong.” I’ve rated each piece on a scale of 1 to 10, taking in consideration each garment’s overall look, comfort, fit, and price. Nylon Spandex Micro-Mesh Triangle Cross-Back Bra:

Overall Look: 10/10. One of the great things about American Apparel is that each silhouette (whether it be intimates or regular apparel) is generally available in a wide variety of colors, giving it the ability to appeal to many customers. This bra also comes in black, white, nude, scarlet, sunshine/white, pop purple, magic pink, navy and royal blue. Plus, the new sexy mesh lets the nipples peek through, which I’m sure won’t generate any complaints from the boys.

Comfort: 7/10. Even though this bra is made of a nylon spandex micro-mesh blend, it feels like cotton on the skin. It’s virtually weightless and you can barely feel it when it’s on, which is always a quality I look for when shopping for bras. However, if you move around too much (and haven’t purchased the right size) a breast might pop right out, and since you barely feel the bra to begin with, you will not feel when this happens!

Fit: 7/10. If I were to follow the size chart provided on AA’s Web site, I would have purchased this bra in a medium, which I actually did do about a year ago when I bought the “Cotton Spandex Jersey Cross-Back Bra” version, but that was the incorrect fit.  AA sent me the small this time around, and even that, I would say, is a bit too big, which is unfortunate because the bra only comes in sizes S, M and L. If AA incorporated adjustable straps into the design, this problem would vanish and there would be more support.

Price: 10/10. Using the handy dandy cost-per-wear equation (item price divided by times worn equals the cost per wear) I decided that at only $14, this triangle bra is a super value. It is practical and comfortable enough to wear at least twice a week and it will last you at least a year, making the cost per wear as little as $0.14!

Overall score: 8.5/10

Nylon Spandex Micro-Mesh Low Slung Panty:

Overall Look: 10/10. This panty has the same appearance qualities as its matching bra: it’s sexy, sheer and available in the same 10 colors.

Comfort: 10/10. These panties manage to be far more comfortable than its matching countertop. The elastic waistband doesn’t dig into the body, which as always is a very positive attribute!

Fit: 10/10. I also wouldn’t follow the size chart AA provides on their Web site for this one — definitely aim for one size smaller. Seriously, I have a, let’s say um, plump butt (I’m Brazilian so there was no way around it!) and would normally buy a medium to get close to full-coverage, but AA sent me the small and it fit perfectly.

Price: 10/10. At only $11, if you wear these babies once every two weeks for a year, the cost per wear is merely $0.42!

Overall score: 10/10

Screen Print Baby Rib Thong:

Overall Look: 10/10. AA sent me a thong in lemon bearing the limited edition “Okay USA” print, and even though I don’t usually like written words on my lingerie, I think this piece is meant to be fun and a reflection of the company’s manufacturing standards, so I like it. Thumbs up. It also comes in nude, brown, orange, pink and lime.

Comfort: 10/10. Let me just start out by saying that I don’t particularly like to wear thongs. Maybe it’s a misconception, but I normally can’t see them as being comfortable undergarments. Perhaps it was the ultra-slim waistband that didn’t dig in to my body, or the fact that it’s 100 percent cotton, but whatever it was, something made me have a change of heart about thongs. In other words, it was super comfortable!

Fit: 8/10. Once again, aim smaller. AA sent me the size 0 and it fit — I normally fit anywhere between a size 3 and 7 in pants (US sizes), and always overlook any size “nothings.”

Price: 6/10. I found this piece a bit expensive at $17. If you were to wear it once a month for a year, the cost per wear would be $1.41, which, yes, is really inexpensive, but like I said I’m not a huge fan of thongs!

Overall score: 8.5/10

The Obsidian collection ranges in size from 32 A – 36 DD and includes bras, briefs, bikinis, thongs, and chemises in materials such as lovely leavers lace, sensual silk georgette, and magnificent mesh.  Details such as embroidery, buckles, and bows gives each piece character along with the Obsidian signature, a bright blue strip on the inside of each strap (look for it in the photos!). 

Bras retail from $80 – $105, panties from $40 – $50, and slips and chemises from $125 – $135.

After a small glitch, the fourth set has been released at Edition 12.

It is called “Meshville” and includes a triangle bra and some boxer-inspired knickers. They are made of petrol lace and are €140.00. Hurry, this set will be revoked on 12 November.

Panty styles include bikini, boyshort, cheeky, hipster, and thong in cotton, mesh, or lace.  Choose from a variety of patterns, prints, and solids.  Prices for panties range from $7.50 to $10.50, but are also available 5 for $25 or 3 for $24 depending on the style.

I plan on trying a few pairs out to see how they compare to my staple favorites – Commando, Cosabella, Honeydew, and Hanky Panky!  Many of the panty styles resemble these popular department store and boutique brands.  I’m also interested in hearing about the quality and fit of the bras as compared to other brands.  They are out of my size range so I’d love to hear about your experiences.  Please share in our forums.  I’m looking forward to hearing your opinions.

Bodas was a new brand to me. With bras, knickers, camis, and more in cotton, mesh, and tactel, the collection is ideal for keeping you cool and comfortable as well as chic. In a variety of colors and styles, Bodas is perfect under clingy summer dresses and sexy summer short shorts!

With wedding season in full swing, I’m sure many of you are purchasing gifts for friends or perhaps for yourself. If you are looking for something a little different, I suggest Letters of Marque. This line proves that the sweet, vintage Victorian look can be sexy too. Soft and sheer with Leavers lace embellishments, it will be hard to choose between the bralette and cami and the bloomers and g-string. The collection also includes a babydoll and bed jacket.

Fleur’t is possibly best known for its super comfortable and super soft lulu’s boy pant! To accommodate the wide range of women who swear by this staple, lulu’s boy pant are now available in two new sizes – Petite/Small and Large/Large in addition to the already existing Small/Medium and Medium/Large! And the sizes aren’t the only new addition. Fleur’t has added an assortment of fun, eye-popping colors and cute, sassy patterns. I’m a fan of the solids papaya and pink lavender as the patterns lemongrass damask and rose giraffe! Also find these colors and patterns in the low-rise thong, lace v-thong, and g-string. The lulu collection, which in addition to the boy pant and low-rise thong, includes a bralet, criss-cross cami, lace strap cami, long cami, criss-cross chemise, and a new yoga pant! Mix and match them all for a cute and cozy look. The amber collection is a fleur’t favorite featuring pretty lace overlays. Again, the pieces in this group can be mixed and matched. In addition to the camis and chemise, the amber collection is noted for its delicate kimono robe. New to the amber collection are a lace bralet and matching ½ lace thong boy.

Spring/Summer 2008

The Spring/Summer collection is already in stores and will continue to appear in stores over the next few months. One new group for spring, valerie, features heathered rayon spandex in black and grey edged with ivory stretch cluny lace. Both the empire cami and chemise are marked by a very fleur’ty open front. The same stretch lace accents both the tunic and cropped ruffle pant.

I love the chantal group as it reflects a new trend in fleur’t lingerie – prints! Made of silk charmeuse and overlaid with lace, chantal is perfect for lounging or sleeping. In addition to hot pink and aqua, the lace bust cami and chemise and coordinating boxer short also is available in coral swirl or aqua swirl prints.

With spring comes an influx of weddings, so vanessa is perfect for the blushing bride. Choose from a lace front low-rise thong, lace bralet, and lace bust cami and chemise.

Speaking of prints (again), jessica is an all print group that evokes a youthful spirit! Pair the cami with the matching lace brief or long wide leg pant or the chemise with the lace v-thong. Prints include pink leopard, green floral, pink polka dot, and ivory polka dot!

If all of this wasn’t already enough, lulu has to make an impression on spring! Look for lulu in light, airy springy colors like white, sky, and pink! In April, lulu is available in pink, lemon, and seafoam before brightening things up in May with whimsical colors like fuchsia, papaya, and orchid. Perfect for the tropical vacation you will need around that time! After all that fun, it will be time for rest and relaxation. Muted colors like ivory, pink, and black are accented with a silvery shade called dove, reflecting the calm and serene onset of summer.

There are so many other exciting elements to the collection including more prints, more bright colors, and more styles. I love the low rise ruched back panty in the amy collection as I think the ruched looked is absolutely darling and flatters the female form. Additionally, it is edged with a sweet heart shaped elastic, which I am sure will make it popular with lots of ladies. I also like the agatha collection as it offers a new tunic dress for the client who wants a little more coverage. In the caroline collection, there are a range of styles with a variety of coverage options. Choose from the spaghetti strapped, lace bust cami and chemise or the lace tank and tank dress featuring wider straps for additional coverage.

In August, the Pixelate collection is introduced. A new, everyday classic using a new balconette bra profile. Complete the look with the bikini (featuring ruching on the back seam) or thong. Made from a stretch mesh, Pixelate will be available in Black and White in August and in Crystal Rose in November. Another great addition arriving in August is Pigment. Leading the way as one of the first contour bras for larger cup sizes, this sophisticated style is made of a gorgeous diamond print satin. The matching satin bikini features mesh side panels.

Starting in September, more glorious masterpieces will hit the stores. Art Deco is an exquisite range as it meets style with comfort. The balconette bra and matching bikini, in a beautiful, soft neutral, Moonlight Fawn, are made of a soft microfiber and edged with a contrasting guipere embroidery. Delightful! Conceptual is a beautiful profile that accomodates through a G cup! Using modern and elegant eyelash lace in Crabapple Coral against a nude lining is flirty, but classy. With an eyelash lace front and mesh back, the bikini completes the look.

In October, introduce yourself to Perfection. This well-constructed, vertical seam profile gives the bust an amazing lift. In White Smoke, this stunner features delicate lace, piped seams, and adorable rosettes. October also welcomes Restoration, another bra in the new contour profile. Made of silky microfiber in Navy, the glamorous look is completed by the White Smoke eyelash lace and stretch ribbon detailing.

Calligraphy, arriving in November, is one breathtaking range! The Linen Cream fabric is accentuated with a “tattoo” embroidery in a rich turquoise. A satin trim completes the sweet and fashionable look. November and December will welcome back some of the favorite ranges such as Conceptual, Restoration, and Perfection in additional colors.

However, looking ahead to the very sophisticated Fall Collection, you will continue to be impressed! While EMI staples such as Coranto, Dentelle, Sheer Ribbons, Spellbound, and Harmonies will appear in new colourways, new silhouettes will also be introduced. Look for fall to incoporate lots of rich and luscious jewel tones at the onset and fade into sweet, softer shades towards winter. Additionally, the collection will include a lot of “surprise” backs to the bikinis using sheer mesh and lace.

In August, you’ll meet Revel, one of the new stand out pieces. In vibrant shades of green, this sassy set is available in an underwire bra as well as matching bikini or thong. Another something special being introduced in August are the satin Seductions bikinis. They feature a seamless fit and are offered in 6 assorted colors (including Pearl, Daffodil Yellow, and Blue Plastic). Sheen, arriving this fall in both Jet and Iris Purple, is a new silhouette identified by its whimsical, sequin detailing. November ushers in Captive, a fun, flirty polka dot print. The Contour Bra, Culotte, and Thong are all composed of both satin and lace. Another print for fall is Echo. Incorporating shades of orange and purple, this fun and feisty set is edged in lace. It’s unfortunate we have to wait until December for Monarque! In Bleached Apricot, this sweet and flirty set is accented both under the bust and along the leg with delicate bows.
