In the early 2000s, Frankly Darling was one of the key labels driving the next wave of British lingerie. The goal of the label was to be glamorous and British without being campy or trite. Debbie liked the bird motif in her logo and in her designs – often using the bluebird. These designs could feel sophisticatedly vintage. However, the volume from Frankly Darling was not consistent. The corporate site was silent in 2006, then came back only to go without updates for many months in 2007. At this point, the domain is no longer resolving. Here is a montage of some of the Frankly Darling designs from those years.

Just when it looks like the brand may not be around, I stumbled on new offerings at Be Cheeky. I emailed and received this explanation.

Be Cheeky has a few pieces to choose from and the price point is very different than I remember. Knickers are under 10$ US and bras are under 20$ US.

Girardi is an Italian manufacturer of hosiery. In 1954 Mr Domenic Girardi established ‘Calzifico Girardi’ after a long experience in the stocking industry. By the 1970s Girardi became very popular throughout Italy. This led to a strong growth in the company and in order to cope with the demands Girardi S.R.L. was created in 1998.

These soft black cotton knee-highs look and feel great. They come with a frilled edging and an extravagant satin bow. Try them with your favourite heels. Comes in one size, which fits adult UK shoe sizes 3-7. Price is £25.00.

I don’t know when the skirted suspender belt was invented, but it has been making a very sexy comeback over the last few years. Several companies are offering up this design including Cameo Intimates, Victoria’s Secret, and an elaborate contraption from Made by Niki. This invention from Girardi includes a smooth panel of sophisticated black lace that is designed to lie flat under clothing, giving the sexy allure and convenience of stockings but without fiddly suspender fasteners. Topped with tiny bows and decorated with a subtle pattern across the top, these skirted suspender tights will add glamour and sophistication to any outfit. Find it for £30.00.

La Magia picked the brand up a while ago, which finally allowed English-speaking ladies to purchase pieces.

Now BeCheeky.com has also started carrying the brand, making it even easier for women who don’t speak French to get their hands on it. BeCheeky’s buyers recently found the brand at a trade show, and have started carrying the new Autumn/Winter range of padded bras, thongs, briefs, suspenders, and even matching shoes. But they do have their facts a bit wrong: BeCheeky claims that all the pieces on their site are exclusive to them and that they are the only retailers carrying them in the UK. However a few of the pieces, like the CanCan suspender belt, can also be found at La Magia. But we’re not complaining! BeCheeky is also having an autumn sale right now. Yes, quite a few of them have extraordinary bodies — and showing them off is undoubtedly a good thing, but for some reason the lingerie that’s coming from Brazil is always just that tiny (pun intended!) bit more provocative than the European and American brands… The Brazilian women must have a truckload of confidence to match their bottoms ;) !

Anyway, found out about Sensualle today, a Brazilian brand that specializes in very small strings — the super-sexy kind. I’m very tempted to go shopping for them (at BeCheeky for example!), as the more modest designs look absolutely stunning!
