Warm and supple, cool and gleaming, timeless and futuristic – latex couture meets lingerie – deemed to be the secret weapon for special moments. Key elements of the intricate couture collection are delicate bikini strings, triangle bras and suspenders, as well as underwired bras, torselettes and panties. The whole collection is based on a mix and match principal, where each item can also be custom made to individual colour preferences.

Pastel colours complement crystal clear translucency. Strong graphical contrasts are set by combining deep-black and crème-white. Lustrous candy colours and algid metallic nuances create coquette accents in harmony with latexbows, French ribbons and glistening rhinestones. Artful accessories such as garters, short gloves, playful futuristic stockings and collars complete each seductive outfit.

HMSlatex has been around since 2006. At first, the founder began creating latex clothes for herself to wear while modeling. After she got great feedback and requests for custom creations, she decided to open up shop. Most of her garments are intended to be things that fetishists can wear on a daily basis, and her shop includes both clothing and lingerie (of course, I’m focusing on the lingerie!). HMSlatex makes bras, knickers, tank tops, dresses, and more. You can even choose the color of your garment, since each purchase is made to order. Since you’ll be investing a bit of cash to buy these garments, it may be worth it to you to pay an additional 30% fee to have your picks made to measure.

The descriptively named Vintage Opulence has a definitively unique victorian feel that helps you to induldge your girly, theatrical side. There is no lack of lace, ruffles, or satin roses in this shop! Sarah, the woman behind the shop, hand-makes, dyes, and hand-finishes vintage and vintage-inspired lingerie. Perfect for burlesque stars or just those who wish they were, Vintage Opulence offers extremely feminine bras, girdles, corselettes, bustiers, and waist cinchers in colors like dusty rose, powder blue, lilac, and ecru. I own one of the lacey waist cinchers in lilac and I love it! I am seriously considering the scarlet and ecru waist cincher, because it looks like a perfectly glamorous fit for these winter months. Vintage Opulence is relatively new on Etsy, but be sure to keep this one bookmarked – there will be a whole bunch of new pieces up soon!

Cheesecake Burlesque is like an overstuffed candy store for anyone who likes pasties and nipple tassels. With over 100 different designs, any girl would be hard-pressed to visit the shop without finding something she liked! There are the traditional burlesque styles made of sequins and tassels, but there are also the unexpected ones inspired by Betty Boop, seashells, strawberries, Hello Kitty, yin yangs, furry monsters, ducks, and much more. I can’t possibly describe them all, so you owe it to yourself to make a visit to the Cheesecake Burlesque shop and have a look for yourself. The shop supports The Cheesecake Burlesque Revue, a troop based in British Columbia, Canada. This is a great place to buy your first set of pasties or tassels, as each purchase includes tassel twirling tips, application instructions, cleaning instructions, common problem solutions, specialty double-sided tape, and a Cheesecake Burlesque collector card. Glamourous elements such as rhinestones, delicate satin ribbons and elegant frills have been added with a love for detail to create a harmony between alluring looks and the bold futuristic style of latex. A perfect example is the Nightflight thong in the pic below…

Q: How did you get started in the industry?
A: I worked for a fetish designer in Hamburg and soon started my own lingerie line, as I always thought that is what latex is made for: sexy lingerie.

Q: Did/do you work with fabrics other than latex?
A: I shoot with other fabrics, but I manufacture only latex-lingerie. for Fun I do sometimes hats and bags non-latex, but thats it.

Q: What special techniques are needed to work with latex?
A: I think you have to be skilled to work with your hands and fingers, as you don’t use machines to do it, and you have to be patient.

Q: How would you divide up your customer base?
A: That is very hard to say as I usually don’t meet my customers, I only sell over the internet and an email is all I get.

Q: Did you get formal training for your craft?
A: No, my teacher was an self-trained artist and I got most of my knowledge from him. I always thought about studying or getting a formal training, but I have more fun in being free and and just keep on doing things.

Q: Your collection mixes traditional lingerie design, fetish design, and some pencil skirts done in latex. How do you decide what pieces to create?
A: I just do what I like to see on my models and put it in my shop and see if other people like it as well. I don’t have a straight business plan and enjoy just doing what I feel like. Luckily my customers like my style and so I get along quite well with it.

Q: How do you go from sketch to sale?
A: I store my sketches sometimes years, and then I discover them again and have a shooting and as soon as there is a photo, I can put it in my shop!

Q: Is their a mix with off the peg and bespoke work?
A: I mostly do made-to-measure when people order my outfits because I ask for the measurements anyway.

Q: Have you found cross-over appeal with traditional fashion and your molded stockings?
A: Many designers use stockings and gloves as accessories nowadays. It was exciting at the beginning, but by now it is boring again, at least for me. Often magazines lend my outfits, but at the end they only used the stockings and gloves. I guess they feel the rest is still too much “fetish”. I don’t share that opinion.

Q: You have a great sense of modern pinup styles like the Valence Suspender Skirt and the Cup Body and the Hotpant. Where do you find inspiration?
A: Pin-up is always everywhere I guess. You don’t have to be a fan of pin-up to be influenced by it. It is just very feminine and cute and that is what I like. I don’t see my style very pin-up, but most people do. I find inspiration everywhere, but mostly I am inspired by my models. when I retouch photos and see their bodies on my screen, different outfits pop up in my mind.

Q: Do you have plans to expand your market or does the Internet provide the reach you need?
A: I am very happy with my online-shop and I appreciate the freedom it gives me. I have often thought about expanding, but then I would be trapped with a company I am responsible for. I want to keep it small and flexible for the moment.

Atsuko specializes in printed latex and her designs and efforts are broadening the appeal of a fabric that was considered fetish.

Atsuko has a partnership with Lascivious in the UK. So far, the results are gloves and a choker, but more to come, I’m sure.

Atsuko offers these guidelines for the care and handling of their special garments.

1. Always use talcum powder or water based lubricant inside all rubber clothing before use
2. Keep away from heat and daylight – even indoors. store in a dark wrapping
3. Lighter coloured rubber can become discoloured when placed next to strong ones
4. Metals can damage rubber i.e, belts, body piercings, coathangers
5. Avoid contact with all oils. oils can mark and/ or permanently damage rubber i.e. greasy hands, baby oils
6. We recommend the use of a rubber polish (eg pvc dressing. also known as pervoshine) in order to maintain the quality of the rubber
7. As with all printed fabrics it is possible that the print on some printed latex garments may wear. this is more common where the garment is rubbing against itself (eg under armpits).

Stripped & Whipped is the kind of latex lingerie that can get people to rethink all their presumptions about latex. It’s eye-opening stuff. Designer Daniel Herman makes all his pieces handmade to order, and even though I don’t like all of his work some of these pieces look so fragile and feminine I would have never thought they were latex.

Anyway, let’s give you some photo’s. The first two are a beautiful latex negligee – absolutely classy with a very innocent look to it. The price tag is ridiculously low at CHF 115 ($92). That’s amazing for such a beautiful piece. Want something a little more daring? The bikini in photo 3 and 4 is quite special. I wouldn’t recommend it for anything over a size 38 though !
