What Katie Did Seamed Stockings

1. If you need a garter belt, put it on now.
2. Make sure your feet are well moisturized, and that your toenails are trimmed and free of hangnails.
3. Take the same precautions with your hands. To be extra safe, you can use hosiery gloves to protect your stockings from your hands.
4. Grasp the opening of the stocking, and slowly gather the stocking into your hand. Continue down the leg until you have the whole leg bunched in your hands and your fingers have reached the toe.
5. Put your foot into the stocking. Make sure the stocking isn’t twisted. If you have a reinforced heel and/or toe, make sure everything is in the proper position. If your hosiery has a back seam, ensure that it is positioned correctly along the back of your heel.
6. Slowly pull the stocking up your leg. If you have a back seam (or other vertical decoration) you may find it helpful to do this in front of a mirror so you can check for squiggly lines as you go. If the seam is crooked, don’t pull on the stocking into position when it is already in your leg. Roll the stocking down to the area of the squiggle and carefully begin to pull the stocking up again with the line straight.
7. If you are wearing pantyhose, tights, or thigh-highs, you’re now done! If you are wearing stockings, it’s time to attach them to the garter belt.

Even more than in 2009, the 2010 collection has some of the most detailed patterns I’ve seen on hosiery from a mainstream label. Floral details, geometric labyrinths and jaw-dropping baroque-style patterns catch the eye as soon as you see these photos – and make these tights and stay-ups even more of a fashion statement.

With the hopes of revamping hosiery into an exciting fresh new look, Kysella created Lingerie Toes under her brand Voet Hosiery to replace unsightly toe peds that almost always end up peeking out from under the edge of our shoes.

Kysella explains how Lingerie Toes came about on her Web site: “One day while shopping at a department store for flesh-colored toe peds, I realized that these things were really ugly, and embarrassing when they showed. I knew I could make something nicer for my feet. So, I went home and pulled out my sewing machine and some lace. What came next was my first pair of Lingerie Toes… my design exceeded my expectations. Family-run Falke was founded in 1895 when Franz Falke-Rohan founded a knitting mill, and the German brand began manufacturing hosiery in 1958. Falke has a range of products including sportswear, clothing items, and socks. We just focus on the gorgeous hosiery here at TLP. I haven’t had the opportunity to try Falke myself, mainly because I am way too hard on my hosiery and I can’t imagine the heartbreak of the inevitable run I would create in these pricey beauties! But every Falke-wearer I know can only rave about them and they are delicious eye candy. You can find Falke at MyTights, Freshpair, Stockings HQ, Alex Blake, and Figleaves (UK/US).

My favorite part of the tights is the waistband. In true Commando form, the wide, laser-cut waistband lies flat against your body leaving no lines under your most snugly fitting dresses eliminating those unsightly bulges that typical, elastic band tights leave. The tights themselves are soft, smooth, and sleek.  To add a little pizzazz, the waistbands of the black and brown tights are not only available in solids, but in paisley as well.  My wish is that the hosiery will be so successful that they branch out into patterns, textures, and more.
