For a few years now, Slimpressions has been actively involved with the charity, Food for the Poor, that reaches impoverished communities in the Caribbean.  With 96% of donations going directly to those in need, the organization does amazing work to build homes, sanitation facilities, and more.  The funds from Slimpressions have been donated to Lahatte, Haiti.  In light of the recent tragedy in that nation, the funds Slimpressions is donating is even more vital and timely than ever.  I spoke with co-founder, Jennifer Daniels this week at Curve and she informed me that the development of Lahatte is just about 20% complete.

The Lingerie Post has pitched in a small donation to get things started!

Hosted by New York-based non-profit organization UNITE in Fashion, the “Passionately Pink” fashion show will feature donated styles from Magic Silk’s new sexy Pink Leopard and Cupid collections. Attendees will also get the chance to nab their own Magic Silk silk g-strings that will be given away in goody bags.

“As a lingerie manufacturer, we feel the responsibility to be involved with the efforts to fund breast cancer awareness and research. UNITE has performed wonderful fundraising work for different charities, and we are happy to be supporting such an important cause,” said president of Magic Silk Jeff Baker.

“Passionately Pink” will be held Sunday, February 14^th at 7 p.m. Admission is a $10 minimum donation per attendee.

The corset, which the exhibitionist popstar wore in her recent concert tour, is also signed by the Gaganess herself and will be given to the highest bidder once bidding ceases on February 23^rd. The corset has an estimated value of $2,000, but bidding is already up to $5,000!

One such girl, Susie Hutson won the overall competition when she polled the most public votes after becoming a Forces Sweetheart in the East Midlands, where she met an Officer, who has now become her partner. As part of her win, Susie won the chance to appear on the calendar cover, and become the face of Wickedelic Lingerie. Susie said, “Britain has the bravest Armed Forces in the World, and I am so honoured to be a part of the Wickedelic Sweethearts calendar, raising money for the two most important charities in the UK right now – Help For Heroes and Combat Stress.”

Wickedelic Lingerie boss and ex-Royal Marine, David Hildrew said, “I understand the physical and emotional strain the brave men and women of our Armed Forces go through, and it’s a great source of personal pride for me that we are able to do our small bit, and raise funds for these two vital charities. All our 13 girls are stunning in their own ways, and Susie is a perfect cover girl, and a gorgeous girl to be the face of Wickedelic Lingerie.”

Prices just £10.00, all proceeds will go to charity. Raising Aids Awareness is a cause especially close to Andrea’s heart as it helped and supported her friend when he needed it most.

Boutique Founder Nikki Crouwel says about the campaign: “This recession is not only harming the car industry, it is painful to the fashion and lingerie sector as well. But this witty campaign that refers to the car scrap scheme in a lighthearted way, has surprising earned attention and increased our sales. Most important, we can send the returned bra’s to a good cause.”

I actually think this is a GREAT idea – and hope to see more brick & mortar locations do similar things. This has to be a win-win situation, no?

In the weeks before this event, CincyChic collected decorated bras from local businesses and individuals. These bras were then displayed on Fountain Square in downtown Cincinnati at various times throughout the day from 7AM to 7PM. Anyone passing through the square was able to vote for their favorite decorated bra, and the 10 favorite bras were auctioned off that evening at the afterparty to benefit Susan G Komen for the Cure.

I wasn’t able to attend the evening reception but I did enjoy the lunch n’ learn where Britt Cruikshank from La Silhouette Lingerie discussed the importance of a well-fitting bra, helped attendees discover their own bra sizes, and answered bra-fitting questions from the audience. Here are some of the great tips she emphasized during the event:

• Before getting any plastic surgery done to your breasts, make sure you’re wearing the correct size bra to begin with. This will make large breasts more comfortable and provide the best shaping for any size. You may discover you don’t need surgery after all.
• If your bra is uncomfortable or doesn’t fit you correctly, there is nothing wrong with you. There is something wrong with your bra - whether it’s the size, shape, or style. There is a bra out there for everyone.
• If you need more support, don’t automatically buy wider straps to cinch up. Most of the support should come from the band, so make sure that is the correct size to properly support you.
• Go through your lingerie drawer at least once a year to get rid of anything old, worn out, or stretched out. This is also a good time to get re-sized.
• Get rid of all the sweats you wear to bed – be sure to wear something pretty and feminine! Even if you live with someone you don’t want to be super sexy in front of, there is modest and feminine loungewear that will make you feel your best.
• “The perfect bra is like the perfect man: sensitive, supportive, and will never let you down.”

On February 7th, Eva Longoria Parker, Padma Lakshmi, and Deepak Chopra joined forces to present and speak at Lingerie Miami. The show was held at the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens and celebrated femininity and . The event was to benefit Brazil, Colombia, India, Jamaica, Mexico, and the USA. Marquis sponsors (Belvedere Vodka, Dom Perignon, MAC) joined top designers (Agent Provocateur, Carine Gilson, and Fifi Chachnil). Being a joint show for a celebrity cause, I doubt many new designs were unveiled at the show, but these three designers have deep trunks and I’m sure could put on quite a show. Apparently, the event was a little chilly and Eva Longoria (usually seen in Spoylt on Desperate Housewives) had her own space heater brought in. The event was a sell out (starting at $500/seat) and properly launched a new philanthropic brand according to the founder Renata Mutis Black.

During the trip, Roy also discovered that most girls and their mothers often only own one pair of tattered panties, and so they often just won’t wear any. “They also desperately need knickers, but I guess a Catholic priest wouldn’t have thought about mentioning that!” said Roy.

When HOTmilk learned this, they set out to help. HOTmilk co-owner and co-designer Angie Crosbie said,

“Sometimes we can take a lot for granted, from the roofs over heads right down to the fact we own underwear. When we heard that something as simple as undergarments had the possibility of giving young women in Zimbabwe a better chance to live a life free of sexual abuse, we knew that we wanted to help. Morag had done such a great job in gathering thousands of bras for her cause and we were delighted to donate 6,500 brand new pairs of underwear for her project.“

HOTmilk’s freight forwarder, Express Logistics, also helped the cause by sponsoring the transport of the underwear from New Zealand to Zimbabwe. HOTmilk has sent the underwear is currently awaiting and update from Roy.

Designer, Nicky Adamo, will be showcasing the Julianne Black Label ready-to-wear collection and Swarovski crystal jewelry range.  With drinks, snacks, and beautiful pieces, this is a must-attend event.  Those lucky enough to attend the Glasgow show will be privy to an exclusive catwalk fashion show and sneak peek into next season’s collection.

The Edinburgh Show will be held on Tuesday, November 25th from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm and the Glasgow Show will be held on Wednesday, November 26th from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm.  Tickets are £5 with all proceeds (plus 10% of all sales on event night) going to charity.
