One your favorite designers was Swoon, so we decided to get a little more personal with an interview! The individuals who make up Swoon prefer to remain personally anonymous and told me during the interview that “we are our pants,” which really shines through. They even rejected an offer to put their own pictures up here so that they could get a collage of their beautiful pieces up here instead! I’m so taken by their dedication to their craft and the love they clearly have for what the beautiful things they make!

Here’s a little excerpt, read the full interview right here!

There are three of us at Swoon – between the three of us we cover all genders (not difficult!) and we also try to cover all ‘attitudes’: that’s a bit more challenging, but we like to think we’re quite attitude-savvy, and we’re doing what we can to make our products ‘inclusive to all’. Ha! That may seem a little strange when we’re talking about underwear, but we have a pretty symbiotic relationship with our pants: we are them and they are us! – and we believe that’s as it should be.

The Swooning process was pretty organic – as is usually the case with a warm-blooded business (i.e. no one sat down at a desk and planned it!). It started with one pair of pants that was so admired and clamored after that it quickly led to another. It was one of those ‘this is just for me’ things that grew into ‘okay, this is for me, but I’ll let my friends join in’ and then to an ‘alright friends of friends too’ situation, and then to Etsy!

It is certainly no secret around here that our lingerie drawers are filled with beautiful pieces from our favorite designers and boutiques. But as appealing as those mass-produced pieces are, I get an itch sometimes to have something completely my own. To cure this, I went looking for handmade lingerie on Etsy, a website for independent craftsmen to sell their wares. I love these pieces because they are pretty, but also because they are so unique and unlike anything you’ll find in a conventional store. Plus, you can get custom-made pieces so you know no one has exactly what you have, even if they buy from the same seller! All of these sellers ship internationally.

Vivalavida has stolen my heart with her screen-printed vintage slips and camisoles. All of the prints up currently are nature scenes, so you can get branches or vines sprawling up your figure. I love the color combinations – like a deep red swallow on a champagne cami, or this bright blue kingbird print on a white slip.

Reconstructionist gives boyshorts a cute update with little forest creatures, snails, and doves on the hip of the jersey knickers. All products can be custom-made (such orders are encouraged), and you can even get a discounted pair if you buy the fabric yourself. Also offered are adorable ruffly bloomer undies, but my favorites are still the boyshorts with custom-made appliqués.

Last but not least, Swoon offers bras, panties, camisoles, garter belts, sleepwear, and now even matching pocket pants for the man in your life. Everything is offered in what seems a zillion different fabrics – from a Beatrix Potter print to a bodice-ripping romance scene. My favorite products by far are the lace-trimmed panties with side bows! Custom orders are available.
