Readers who have not yet heard about Pudding can be forgiven for thinking it’s an odd name for a lingerie shop! That’s because Pudding is far more than the average lingerie shop. Its owners, Helen and Paul Masters, describe it as ‘a luxury lingerie salon, where shopping should feel like a real treat…they want their customers to indulge!’

Their opening catwalk show featured an exclusive range of the world’s best brands, most of which are completely new to Reading. As Helen described, “Shoppers in Reading told us that they’d love to be able to treat themselves to world renowned luxury brands like Rigby and Peller, La Perla, Myla and Roberto Cavalli but until now that has meant a trip to Harrods or maybe an out of the way lingerie shop. There’s also a real demand for expert fitting and a wider size range than other high street stores offer – that’s where Pudding can help.”

The Madame V pieces are those of their AW07 line we featured last week. I loved them before — and I love them now. At €219 for this excellent Romantica set for example, you pay for what you get, though!

I like the Pleasure State pieces though, even though they’re way more basic. The Pleasure State class shines through though, especially in sets like this pretty Cinta bra and Thong/Garter combo!

The strong ornamental theme in design for Pleasure State Couture and Pleasure State White Label Autumn|Winter 07/08 collections is juxtaposed between past and future. Not an anecdotal retrospective but a truly modern interaction between historical references and design adapted for modern end-use.

The baroque and Spanish touches are quite dramatic and lend themselves to fulfilling Pleasure State’s philosophy: that creativity and functionality should coexist (they loathe the smooth-bra trend, which is very practical but a decidedly less-sexy lingerie sphere). Crafted corsets (with nostalgic construction) have a presence in the collection, as do fabrics inspired by table linens, crochet stylings, and old lace mantillas. So you can see where these “historical references” come from! It is also worth noting that Pleasure State announced they hope to bring back the thong, which has been falling out of fashion lately with the prevalence of boyshorts – a trend we noted in the forums. Do you think they’ll succeed?

Brand Selection
The brand selection is awesome: Chantal Thomass, I.D. Sarrieri, Moontide, Princesse Tam Tam, Mimi Holliday, Pleasure State and Elise Aucouturier — all luxurious, high quality brands that aren’t always easy to find on the net. They’ll be adding Madame V to that list in august — something we can only applaud!

Pricing
This is Euro-pricing and even though that’s my home currency I’m not too used to comparing prices in Euro. After doing some calculating the prices look competitive, though! Don’t expect cheap — these pieces just aren’t.

I wish I had much more information for you, but I’m afraid the photo’s will have to speak for themselves… I love the cami and the bustier, but my favorite is by far the silver dotted underwired with black lace trimming. I’m getting my hands on that one as soon as it hits the shops in Belgium…
