And God Created Woman Spring/Summer 2009

Luxurious loungewear specialist And God Created Woman has just released images of their upcoming Spring/Summer 2009 collection that’ll launch at the Paris Lingerie show this weekend (check Nerys Hebdon and her label out in Spicy Garden on stand R51).

If you can’t make it to Paris, these photos will give you an idea of the beautiful and high-end stuff you can expect from And God Created Woman this year!

The Complete Boudoir: Pillows

In part one of our series, The Complete Boudoir, TLP showcased wallpaper. In this edition, the focus is pillows. A bedroom is outfitted with pillows made for sleeping. A boudoir is stocked with pillows for all sorts of other activities. You can spend a little, or you can spend a lot. Your pillows can match your bedding or contain pithy quotes. It is completely up to you. Here are some TLP Suggestions.

From Uncommon Goods, this pillow is silk screened with sayings like “Do not require a request to be repeated,” “Never make a remark calculated to bring ridicule upon the other” and “Never neglect the other, for all the world beside.”. It is $50.

Coco De Mer offers this vintage print of a girl reclining. Each pillow is $90.

Kiki de Montparnasse offers this beautiful 100% silk and silk-filled pillows. This is quite an indulgence for the romantic bed in platinum, slate, or blush.

Smith and Noble offer this customizable pillow with an overwhelming 800+ choices of fabrics and finishes.

Finally, from And God Created Woman, this beautiful pillow wrapped in silk with enough extra fabric to stimulate the imagination for alternative uses.

And God Created Woman: Shoot!

One of the most pleasing parts of my job as a lingerie designer is the photo shoot of a new collection. Capturing on camera the designs as you see them (and want the world to see them) is a real high-point.

Creating the right images to speak for the brand is so critical for sales and PR. To be honest, I didn’t quite get it right for the first collection so I wanted to learn from that. With 2 shoots behind me I also felt more confident and brave so wanted to make a bolder statement about the brand. So…bigger budget, new model, new photographer, open mind…

I found a fantastic photographer ‘Hugh Miller’ who was very easy to collaborate with. A true creative who listened, suggested and pushed the possibilities (and delivered). We ended up using the back-drop of a gritty, industrial mill to set-off the luxury of the silks. Watching the shoot I could see the gowns evoking a grace and elegance in the model – despite the location and the cold – which is captured beautifully in the photographs. Very satisfying to witness as that’s exactly how I want women to respond when wearing the gowns.

“The main point to fashion photography is to show off the product, one can spend all the time in the world setting the scene with hair and make-up, fancy lighting etc. but if you can’t see the clothes what’s the point? To any photographers starting out; make sure your studio has a nice sofa, clients won’t come back unless they can sit comfortably with a coffee and watch the show!”

I’m still buzzing from the Paris Lingerie show… It was fantastic just to be part of such a great event but I got really lucky and was awarded ‘Best New Talent’ – a fabulous boost for the brand and for me (pictured at the show below).

We were profiled during a conference for international press and buyers and invited by the Mayor of Paris to a private party at the Museum of Modern Art on Saturday night. Dream-come-true stuff!

It’s a lot of work to participate in the show before, during and after – but it’s worth every late night. I came away feeling really energised and inspired. I’m a few years away from having a huge glossy stand with it’s own champagne bar and catwalk…but it’s good to have a goal! My overriding impression from the show was that the world is a very big place…it’s really opened up possibilities that I wouldn’t have had access to. Bravo Paris!

Black and white…

I’m just finalizing my second collection which will be launched at the Paris Lingerie show later this month. It’s exciting to see the designs come to life as they arrive from my sample makers. But it doesn’t always go according to plan, as you can see here…

This nightgown is cut on the bias with a low cowl back. In the black silk it slouches beautifully, exaggerating the curve from the small of the back to the derriere. In the ivory it looks like something for catching apples with! Same silk, same weight, same quality, same manufacturer – but different dyes have different effects on the silk which has resulted in the ivory silk being too stiff for this design. So…not quite back to the drawing board but I’ve had to change one of the colours (to a warmer cream – which I’m warming to a lot actually, softer on the skin) and go back to my sample maker. Apologies for the amateur photography and model (me), but I wanted to illustrate the point. 17 days to the show…
