Garter Belt Popularity Surges

The Daily Mail recently noted that sales of stockings and suspender belts have recently surged – retailers are reporting that sales have increased by a third in just the last few weeks! They suspect it is because obvious stockings and visible garter belts have become a quick trend among celebrities like Katy Perry and Rihanna, who wear their dresses short enough to show off straps and welts. Denise Fraser (lingerie buyer for Figleaves) says,

“We have seen a very significant increase in sales of stockings over the last six weeks. Stockings and hold-ups are 35 per cent up on the year for the same period whereas tights are only marginally up on last year. The Dita Von Teese effect has certainly taken hold. Women are desiring a more feminine, sexy look and in the recession, they are buying something sexy to improve their mood. We are also attributing it to the return of Forties and Fifties trends, which we have been seeing on the catwalk. Ladies’ briefs with built-in, detachable suspender belts are proving particularly popular. There are such beautiful fabrics and styles available that it is impossible for women not to feel glamorous and sexy.”

The Queen of the Teese, Dita Von Teese appeared in Covent Garden yesterday to unveil her first collection of vintage inspired lingerie for Wonderbra – which will be available in stores across Europe this week.

Created by Dita and inspired by her love of beautiful vintage lingerie, Wonderbra by Dita Von Teese is designed to actively encourage women of all ages to harness their inner-glamour and beauty. Dita, the undisputed Queen of Burlesque, brings the sensual glamour of the 1940’s and 50’s to the collection, updated with a modern Wonderbra twist.

Dita sounded extremely enthusiastic at the launch: “The fit of the collection is wonderful and you can wear it under your every day clothes. Big exciting news at Dita Central today! Dita’s short film, “The Science of Sexy”, is now online and obviously TLP is here to share!

Quite an unusual look for Dita at the beginning of the film but I think it’s a huge success — and I’m assuming labguys all over the world wouldn’t mind having her around on a daily basis…

Dita says of the film: “It’s a really fun film and represents a stripped down but exaggerated version of my real life: I was a little blonde growing up in a farming community, there wasn’t a lot of glamour there and I felt very ordinary and plain. Lingerie is one of the things that came into play when I was starting to create my own mystique and glamour.”

Wonderbra by Dita “Von Teeser-Video”

You’ve all seen our introduction posts about Wonderbra by Dita Von Teese, and obviously Wonderbra’s PR-people are slowly releasing new stuff about the long-awaited cooperation line. Today, we don’thave new photos — but a teaser video from a film titled “Science of Sexy”, another cooperation between Dita and Wonderbra.

A First Look at Wonderbra by Dita Von Teese

We told you in January that you could expect a collection from Dita Von Teese and Wonderbra. Well, now we have some more information and pictures! The gorgeous “Wonderbra by Dita Von Teese” collection is the first time in Wonderbra’s history that a celebrity has created an exclusive range with the company. Dita, perhaps the most famous burlesque dancer in the world, included garter belts, panties, and bras in her collection (with an unsurprising nod to retro fashions). The star says of her saucy underpinnings:

“I am very proud of the lingerie that I’ve created for Wonderbra, because it has all the beautiful detail of sexy, sensual and glamorous lingerie, but the fit is perfect to wear under your everyday clothes. I love it when you can go about your daily business with the knowledge that you have a little secret of your own on underneath.“

Inspired by 1940s and 1950s Hollywood glamour, the collection includes a bra with a top-wire design that was popular in the fifties. The drop-dead sexy styles also anticipate how your man will react when he sees you in them – some of the panties and bras have quick-release magnetic clasps so you can get them off as quickly and easily as possible (Wonderbra promises that this detail will make “daring stripteases a cinch”)! But Dita is quick to say that men’s reactions aren’t the most important thing about her collection:

“Lingerie shouldn’t be something you just put on for your lover; you should do it for you…It’s not about seducing men, it’s about embracing womanhood.”

Dita Von Teese teams up with Wonderbra

The famous burlesque performer and model Dita von Teese is set to design a limited edition of Wonderbra lingerie, aptly named “Wonderbra by Dita Von Teese.” The retro designs (released in three ranges) will focus on lingerie fashion from the 1940s. Dita will be modeling this new collection in a Parisian photoshoot in the upcoming weeks, and the line itself will be released in September. Dita said of the partnership:

“I’ve been passionate about beautiful lingerie my entire life, so to team up with Wonderbra is a great privilege for me and I am immensely proud of my collection…I really hope that with this new range I can share my passion for sensual, wearable lingerie that will add a touch of glamour to people’s lives.”

Debbie Rix, Wonderbra’s Europoean marketing director, says:

“Dita understands how to make a woman feel sexy. She is a natural fit for the Wonderbra brand.”

Dita will be the first celebrity in Wonderbra’s history to create an exclusive range with the company.

You have seen Secrets in Lace before when we showed you Dita Von Teese’s stocking collection. They have a lot more to offer, though; in the last month alone, the company has launched more than a dozen new products (including these diamond backseam stockings)! There is a lot to say about this company’s dedication to their world-famous lingerie, but today I’m just going to focus on their stockings. Retro fans, read on!

Krista told you that Dita Von Teese was doing some work for Frederick’s of Hollywood, and we’ve seen her before with her stockings from Secrets in Lace. This collection seems true to the nature of the Frederick’s label. From the 60’s; Fredericks was one of the first to glamorize and “sexualize” lingerie — and they’re still on a quest to do so today!
