Boudoir Photography by Elizabeth Kristin
I recently became acquainted with Liz, the very talented photographer of Elizabeth Kristin Photography. While Liz captures memories of 1st birthdays, expectant mothers, and childhood wonder, her newest passion and venture is in boudoir photography! To me, boudoir photography is the ultimate ownership of your sexy! It’s your chance to have fun, showcase you, and shine. And while many ladies take the photos for a significant other, many other ladies are doing just for themselves, which I love. Liz shares her story of how she got into boudoir photography, how she’s developing her craft, and what a typical session looks like. We’re so excited to have her share her perspective and look forward to bringing you even more ideas for your boudoir shoot!
Hi Everyone! My name is Liz and I’m from Elizabeth Kristin Photography. Thank you to The Lingerie Post for asking me to be their guest blogger today! I am so excited and so honored! Ever since I discovered The Lingerie Post, I have been addicted! What an amazing resource for all of your lingerie needs and trends!
Just a little background on me: I started my own photography company almost a year ago. I’m based on Long Island, but travel to all of the Tri-State area. I started out primarily photographing newborn, children, family, and engagement portraits. A few months ago, a client of mine approached me about doing a boudoir session for her. It wasn’t something that I had done before – but I’m always up for something new, and had been interested in this type of photography, so I gladly obliged.
You may be asking yourself, “What exactly is Boudoir Photography?” Well, Boudoir photography is generally a type of photography that captures intimate, beautiful, sensual, sexy pictures of women. Sometimes, but not always, the subject is wearing beautiful lingerie.
Prior to the boudoir session that I mentioned above, I did tons of research. I researched everything from different poses, styles, lighting, and post-processing. I actually even tortured my own husband with a trip to home depot and the local fabric store to make my own headboard to make a bedroom scene for my in-home studio…in the middle of a nasty snowstorm…ooops!
So, when the day came for the shoot, I was super excited. My client arrived and we headed into the studio. We toasted our bravery with champagne, put on some music and got started. With all of my shoots, not only my boudoir sessions (but especially my boudoir sessions), it is extremely important to me that my clients feel comfortable. I had worked with this client before, so our conversation was easy and free-flowing. We went over her outfits, accessories and shoes, and picked outfits that complimented her. I always try to find ways to make my clients feel at ease – by making small talk, or, when I’m working with children, making them smile by making silly faces or asking them about their favorite television show. We got into a groove and started shooting. Two hours later, I fell head over heels in love with this type of photography.
A few days later, I found out about a seminar through a colleague of mine that focused on lighting and boudoir photography. I immediately signed up. The seminar was amazing – there were boudoir photographers and lighting professionals there as well as two live models. We each had our turn posing the models and taking pictures. It furthered my passion for this type of photography.
Every boudoir client that I have always raves about how much fun their session has been. I constantly hear things such as, “I’ve never felt prettier or sexier.” As a woman, I know how important it is to feel good about yourself. It is honestly such an honor to be directly involved with something that empowers women and raises their level of self-esteem. You’d be surprised at how many women are doing this for themselves, as well as doing it as a gift for their fiancés, husbands, or significant others. Feeling like you could use a little boost? Book a boudoir session for yourself today! I guarantee that you’ll walk away feeling like a million bucks!
