It’s upsetting to see Frederick explicitly copying Bordelle. Would you buy a fake Louis Vuitton handbag? Certainly not. I’m sure Bordelle will find out. If I was a designer and see my designs being copied like that, I will definately take legal action. I have never shopped at Fredericks, and now I will definately not.

  2. nk says:

industry standard dictates 30% difference in design/materials. do you think frederick’s used the same expensive materials as bordelle? i doubt it. & the design is different enough. unless a fabric, print, or new technology is copyrighted, you can’t take legal action against something like this.

  3. Melissa B, says:

It’s a shame Frederick lacked creativity and copied Bordelle in this style. Very bad. I would rather save money and buy the original style than buying a cheap fake version of it.

  4. layla says:

As interesting as I find these “LOOK FOR LESS” articles, I think it’s also a little disturbing to see something as unique and high-end as bordelle so blatantly copied and in such a watered down version.

agree with nk, there are a different number of bands, and different garters and cup treatment, and still not a lot of ways as a designer that you can do anything about it… but bordelle will keep innovating, their business shouldn’t be hurt because it is a totally different customer.

  5. Daniel says:

Both Chevy and Range Rover offer SUVs. If you can afford the luxury by all means do. If you just need the utilty the less expensive option is nice to have. No doubt the way these FEEL is what really sets them apart.

  6. alison says:

oh how sad to see such a deliberate knock-off. nonetheless, Frederick’s may look good in a professional photograph, but i doubt it looks as good in person. the customer who buys Bordelle is not only looking for a unique design, but fine quality craftsmanship and the best materials.

  7. Kelly says:

Definitely agree, Alison – with Looks For Less I never want to imply that it’s the same garment, same quality, same value, etc…there is a HUGE difference between Frederick’s quality and the quality of better brands.

  8. India says:

I work at Frederick’s, and I don’t think they are trying to copy. I do think they are trying to give people who want to feel sexy but don’t have the means to buy a freakin’ $590 piece of lingerie a piece that makes them feel good in it. Trust me. The people that come into Frederick’s usually aren’t snobby rich people. They are normal everyday women who want to feel sexy on a budget. So stop being so stuck up, ladies. It’s really sad.

  9. Lexa says:

I seriously don’t think that Frederick’s “deliberately” knocked off this Bordello style. This kind of strappy lingerie is not exclusive to Bodello–it’s all over the marketplace. The Frederick’s style just happens to be similar to Bordello’–and many others.

And bravo to Frederick’s for understanding that no one should pay $600 for something that just ends up coming off in a couple of minutes anyway.

  10. Jennifer says:

Just because one garment is more expensive than the other doesn’t mean that the lesser priced one is a knock-off. That is a misconception. I personally feel that they both are following a trend and both a great executions of that trend for their price points.

  11. Christina says:

U ladies shouldn’t be so judgmental! Not everyone has hundreds of dollars laying around. And how do u know they copied it from them?! I think its completely reasonable for a company who has been around since the 50’s to make beautiful bras, panties, & lingerie for everyone in all sizes regardless of their social status. Sorry you ladies have to be negative!

  12. Nell says:

It is clear that obviously everyone on here works for this stupid company that hardly anyone has ever heard of. What the heck is Bordelle? Sorry to burst your bubble but Frederick’s is much more recognized than your company. I know I know jealousy sucks doesn’t it?

  13. Daria says:

Of course there’s a difference in the quality, but lots of women can’t afford the more expensive version, or are uncomfortable spending that kind of cash on some skimpy pieces of fabric. The difference in the quality between the two is undoubtedly obvious, but the bargain consumer knows that. To each his own. :)

  14. K says:

I actually like the Frederick’s one better. Nice :)

  15. camilla says:

Nell, Daria, Christina, Jenifer, Lexa and India-

I understand that you felt this way, no one likes to know that a company that they hold dear is indulging in plagiarism.

As you probably know, it is practically impossible to patent a design in the fashion industry. An unfortunate consequence of this, is that the dishonesty of plagiarism is rife.

I’m curious to know, whether you were basing your earlier opinion of this matter, on your brand loyalty to Fredrick’s, or the reality of the matter… Bordelle would have designed this dress a good 8 months before it hit the shops, well over 2 years ago.
You can check out their SS09 collection, which you may also recognise other pieces from on this link…

  16. Priscilla Fava says:

Nell: people in the know and refined know Bordelle well. Bordelle dresses celebrities such as Shakira, Lady Gaga, Cindy Crawford and many others. People that appreciate the finest things in life, in this case, fine lingerie knows that Bordelle offers high quality pieces that will last for many years. For more information on the brand visit the official site at: http://www.bordelle.co.uk/.

  17. Bella Bella LOVES Bordelle! We had a customer last month who after receiving her Bordelle Angela Cage Dress order purchased at http://www.BellaBellaBoutique.com, called us to let us know how thrilled she was about the fit and she mentioned she had saved $$ for 2 months to purchase the dress and was so worth it! :-)

  18. I don’t get the negativity. Ok, Bordelle is a better brand or more expensive. If you have that kinda money, yeah go for it buy the Bordelle one. But for those who want a cheaper look, i think it’s a great option.
Ok maybe it is not the greatest thing to copy from a brand, but they already did it so what’s the point to argue.
I think they both look sexy enough :)

  19. Treacle says:

There’s room for both Bordelle and Frederick’s of Hollywood in the lingerie industry, just like there’s room for both Victoria’s Secret and Agent Provocateur.

Almost nothing in the world of lingerie is new, unique, or innovative. Someone, somewhere has done something almost identical to that before.

For my part, as someone who’s familiar with Bordelle and Frederick’s, I’m glad there’s an option for every budget.

  20. Karen M says:

Wow! I don’t know what to say (someone sent me the link). I kinda understand the Fredrick’s people. You want the look, no matter what the cost (as long as the cost isn’t out of your pocket).

Fredrick’s has been around since the 50’s and they designed some amazing stuff in the 50’s & 60’s (love/lust the old adverts)…so what happened? It’s expensive to create designs.

Oh and the other costs. Ask yourself how they bring this version to you? $25 is cheap. Who made this garment that, even after overhead, will still net a profit? I hear you already, “everybody does it”. That is so soothing. There’s also the half life. You know it’s cheaply made so you know it will fall apart, but hey it was only $25 you just tossed in the bin. Btw, if you don’t have a model’s body that F of H isn’t going to do you any favors.

I don’t work for Bordelle, I don’t have a lot of money and I would never spend $600 on a slip (EVER!). Instead I shop sales and since I’m not Lady Gaga, who must be seen in the latest underwear, I can wait or buy something else (on sale) that will do the trick. In fact Bordelle is on sale at at least 3 places right now.

You say “I WANT THAT PIECE NOW!”. Grow-up, you can’t have it, you can’t afford it. Move on with your life, stop buying garbage, there will be something else you in just a minute.

  21. Karen M says:

p.s. @Daniel Don’t dis Chevy! They cut their teeth on truck and make a fine ones and there isn’t a Chevrolet out there that looks like a Range Rover.
