Nastydiva: New Microkini Label

Italy has a brand new microkini label trying to compete with successful and established brands like Wicked Weasel and Malibu Strings! Nastydiva (what’s in a name?) targets “all those women who feel happy about their bodies, who want to emphasise their beauty and highlight their sensuality, who love the game of seduction and – why not?! – who have a narcissistic view of themselves.” Their press release goes on to state that “With a Nastydiva bikini you can’t not feel beautiful and desirable to men!”. Female empowerment? For some reason I’m not a big fan of their press releases. ;-)

Their site — another knock-off. Check out wickedweasel.com and nastydiva.com and make up your own mind. This does look like… a copy?

Same goes for the swimsuits. Looks are very similar to what we’re used to seeing from microwear labels and there’s just not much innovative stuff… I’m not convinced.

If you’re looking for a microkini — stick to the big labels — you’ll get the real deal!

Before holidays I bought some bikini (Models Jennifer and Kate), I found them nice, I like the Italian style very much. Fabric is very particular.
The price is good and service very fast….

There are some small manufacturers that think they can get away with merely copying well-known designs; I know of at least one (and very widely advertized, especially on “adult” websites) that did all of its manufacturing in sweat-shops in China and sold its wares with ridiculously high profit margins.

There are some other small manufacturers, however, that offer tremendous value for money because they actually make their swimsuits to order and provide extensive customization options. These are the ones I go for, even if their websites’ production values aren’t a patch on the super-slick websites of well-connected and well-funded companies like Wicked Weasel; let’s face it, Wicked Weasel was helped a great deal by the fact that its owner is Peter Gifford, former bassist for Australian rock band Midnight Oil; he certainly had from the very beginning the funds to give it a very good internet presence, with highly professional photography and, of course, the connections in the Press to (a) create a buzz around his company, (b) make sure that the Press ignored some other companies, regardless of how worthy they were/are. That’s not to say that Wicked Weasel (which appears to be quite a favorite of yours) doesn’t make good swimwear; they do. It’s just that I like to have the chance to make sure that mine isn’t the same as someone else’s; WW’s products, good though they are, are of the cookie-cutter variety, with zero margin for the buyer to deviate from the predetermined design and make her swimsuit more to her own particular liking.
