Women’s Panties used as Political Weapons

I have said on other occasions that I do not enjoy writing about political causes. But I was intrigued by the use of panties in the protest against secret prisons, so I broke down and wrote about Joe Corre’s cause with the “Fair Trade, My Arse” underwear. Well here I go again. I recently heard about women’s panties being used to protest Myanmar’s military regime.

Apparently, Montreal based activists, through the “Panties for Peace” campaign, are encouraging all women to send their panties to the Myanmar embassy in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Undoubtedly, the request comes in as a result of disgust and disdain for the Myanmar military who is preventing aid from reaching the people in the wake of the recent natural disaster.

The underlying premise is that the men in the military are frightened that contact with women’s panties will somehow undermine their power, relinquishing it completely. There is no idea yet on how many pairs of panties have been sent. The organization further hopes to raise funds for the cyclone victims through the same campaign.

Hats off or should that be Panties Off to all the women who contributed!

I always liked Axis of Eve’s protest panties…”weapon of mass seduction” is their best slogan.
